Been meaning to run a poll on here to see people's thoughts or intentions on this world cup?

Personally I'll be giving it a miss as I don't like how Qatar won it in the first place, clearly they should be nowhere near hosting a tournament of this size. Add in the awful rights records they have over there. I've decided I can't complain about this world cup for 3/4 years and then decide to watch it.

The FA should have pulled out for me, it just goes to show they're happy to pretend to care about certain issues and will make a little video or do something on social media, but they're not willing to make a sacrifice and that to me just confirms they don't really care.

So I'll be making that little sacrifice myself and giving the games a miss. I'm just wondering if any other people are going to be taking a similar stance. Annoying as I was genuinely looking forward to seeing how Canada do, with the dream team of Fonzie and David. On the plus side, I don't have to watch any of Southgates disgusting idea of football, so it's swings and roundabouts.

I can't get up for it, if I'm honest. From a humanitarian point of view - putting aside all the other things wrong with it - the idea of giving it the time of day makes me feel extremely uneasy.

Same as others - the context of this tournament renders it totally unappealing.

The way that FIFA have bent over backwards to take the gilded coin is sickening. They're totally compromised all the values of football and shifted the traditional time of year to accommodate a brutal and corrupt regime's whims so they can make a few sheckles. No thank you.

I will and I think the majority who say they won't will end up doing so. It is a disgrace it's ended up in Qatar but what can you do now.

Yes.

It’s no defence of Qatar but I find a lot of arguments against it hypocritical. There’s been examples of ‘elite countries’ rigging hosting

Correct. I think I realised a while ago that while any stance taken against may seem admirable there's almost certainly going to be some hypocrisy in it somewhere.

I do expect this to be a relatively bad World Cup though for a few reasons. Imagine the support will be poor, the conditions aren't going to be good, the timing terrible. Can see this being looked back on as the worst ever. Then again I thought Euro 2020 would be crap as well and that was largely excellent.

Not that fussed about England in general, but I normally get caught up in the hype for tournaments.

But with all the issues around the hosting of it, and the general fact its a mid-season tournament I doubt I'll watch it. I'll follow our progress without watching, and I'll be a hypocrite if we get to the final of course, but that's it.

No issue whatsoever with a winter World Cup. It's a global sport and European seasons being affected is not ideal but a necessary evil if it means warmer countries get the opportunity to host the tournament safely when they wouldn't otherwise. However the human rights issues are something that shouldn't be overlooked, I can understand the awarding of the tournament but what is unforgivable is FIFA not immediately stripping Qatar of the rights when it became indisputable that human rights abuses were happening in the facilitating of the tournament. I see little reason not to watch though, maybe this will seem hypocritical but I just don't see what difference it'll make and I love the World Cup.

Not looking forward to this, but only from the POV that the NFL and College Football seasons are running at the same time. I've not looked at the clashes yet, but I'm pretty sure I'd have to take 2 weeks off work to fit everything in. It's not often I give up Croatia v Canada in the World Cup.

I will be watching, and hyping myself when England are playing, but completely understand anyone who can't face watching it due to everything that's gone on. I hate that it's there, I hate that it's in the winter, but the World Cup bleeds through my entire childhood to modern day memories, I just cannot miss it.

If nothing else, this will be our last "good" World Cup, too as we're going up to the abomination of 48 teams from 2026. Try and enjoy it, and this perfect format as much as you can.

Nope

Complete farce.

Blood sport and anyone contributing to the viewing figures is endorsing it for the future.

Football is life. I will most certainly be watching it. People say they wont watch it, but they will.

I always find it odd when you speak to non football types. Imagine not wondering the latest scores or what team is doing well or not

Yep. I wish it wasn't taking place where it is, and I wish it was taking place in summer.

But if I still have my faculties in late November/early December I can't imagine choosing to not watch the world footballing nations battle it out. It may even be the last World Cup I have the chance to watch, so I'll be keen to observe the world's best.

Why does everything have to be about politics and human rights and to be honest virtue signalling.

I want to watch the world cup because I want to see the worlds best players against each other and hopefully england winning.

I dont turn my tv on to every sporting event and think ooooh its the qatar world cup, better not watch this its fraud or oh look, theres a banner at chelsea saying "the roman empire" so the fans that sit next to the banner must be pro war, ooooh the china open snooker or saudi arabian grand prix is on, better not watch because its all human rights.

I just want to watch the sport. If it makes me thick that im not bothered about the politics or not intelligent enough to virtue signal by not watching it then so be it, i wont lose any sleep.
