WHen he was linked with Leeds Burnley were reported to be asking £25 million for him which is over double what they paid... wonder what the real price tag is?

Good in the air and will improve defending set pieces.

Bit concerned about his mental strength in high pressure match situations after what happened on the final day vs Leeds.

It’s a general problem we have - (e.g, Soy and Kasper vs Bournemouth and Spurs in CL run-ins), Soumare struggling with the PL etc., so hopefully the club have done their research this time.

Rather Ben Mee if we’re going for a Burnley CB personally.

I’m sure he’s a free agent now.

Getting Phil in would be against all odds.

I can feel it coming in the air

I really like the look of him. Captained Stoke a couple of times as a teenager, so I can see him developing into a leader at the back.

Here's a quote from the Athletic article about him after he joined Burnley

Quote

He scores highly in arguably the most important, defensive impact (74). This is based on how well he stops the opposition from progressing the ball through interceptions and cutting off passing lanes. He may not have been required to do a lot of defending but when he does, he does it successfully.

It is likely that those defensive numbers will rise due to the amount of defending that is required at Burnley in the Premier League. Key to being successful at that is positioning, because Burnley want to force their opponents to cross the ball from wide areas, backing themselves to clear it away. His coaches at Stoke rated his ability to read the game highly — that suits Dyche, who drills distances into his back four during training, and Collins is comfortable defending his own six-yard box from crosses aerially…

…and along the floor.

His aerial duel quantity is low (15/99), whereas Tarkowski and Mee regularly finish high in that category every season. Collins, at 6ft 4in, is suited for the role, and his rating of 62/99 in aerial duels in open play proves he is solid in the air.

When he played at right-back last season, his aerial duel quantity was much higher (68/99) and his aerial dominance shone through, scoring 91/99 in aerial duels.

Consistently, he is aggressive when attacking the ball. That transfers to Stoke’s attacking set pieces. Collins does not score many goals but, as shown below against Coventry City, he provides an attacking threat.

I don't believe in any one player being the solution to a team's woes, but certainly a lot of the things he's being lauded for (sticking a foot in, getting his head to the ball, set pieces) are things we really lack. Hope we can get it across the line.

Completely agree! I mentioned Mee on a free would be a decent signing and someone on here said that Mee’s not good enough on the ball ….. well what I seen of this guy last season, he was utterly useless with the ball at his feet. Misplaced passes, running into dead ends and losing it in dangerous areas, he looked bloody awful from what I seen of him last season!

The feeling I get from a few people is this may be a little underwhelming, but I reckon he's one who could be going through a real leap in his development. He's started to settle at Burnley and has already been a success at Championship level. He's also still really young, especially for a CB.

I'm not getting carried away. Is he another Fofana? I very much doubt it. Could he become good enough to be with us for his best years while we continue to strive for success? Yeah, maybe.

Good defensively and strong in the air

Like with all Burnley centre backs though it will always be hard to judge them on their ball playing ability due to the way they play

If he could do what he did for Ireland the other day regularly I would be pretty happy lol

Exactly.  You can never be sure with Burnley defenders what will happen when they’re on a side that plays football, but I like what I see with Collins and he’s an impressive player for his age.

Players don't suddenly forget how to pass when they join Burnley though. Evans had 2 or 3 years of Pulisball before us and he turned out fine.

Even if he's not the finished article, he'll have good experience from being coached defensively by Gravel Throat as well as playing around Tarkowski and Mee.

Totally agree. I think he would prove to be a very good signing for us. Hope we get this over the line.

Hes certainly a defender but is he a good enough footballer or quick enough to play in our backline?
