Having the conversation earlier this week at 5 a side, we’ve signed some duffers recently, however I think we’ve dodged a few bullets as well. My top three were:

Nicky Maynard - Bristol rejected a crazy fee, worlds longest Foxestalk thread, had a fairly terrible spell at West Ham in the Premier League.

David McGoldrick - by all

accounts we put crazy bids in that were knocked back.

Bakary Sako - heavily linked when he was leaving Wolves, however went to Palace. Hasn’t pulled up trees!

Anyone else?

That fench guy that ended up going to Villa, I forget his name now but I think it was either him or Kante we was gonna sign. Could've been a different story

Veretout?

Played nearly 50 games for Roma last season. He’d have been no

Kante, he’s a steady player though.

Oh yeah he's a decent player but if it meant us not getting Kante then 15/16 probably doesn't happen

Oh I 100% agree on that.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Craig Mackail Smith yet 🤔

We tried to sign a left winger from Palace in the 1970s who was going to be the final piece of the puzzle: an England International by the name of Peter Taylor. IIRC, I think the board didn't come up with the funds and it didn't happen.

We really dodged a bullet not getting him in the club... he could have come close to destroying it!

The nonce that everton paid 45m for is a big one we dodged

Was that Gylfi Sigurdsson?

I wanted us to sign him at the time as well :nono:

Andy Booth, deal nearly done then we discovered his body didn't function.

Just researched the date of this potential deal, looks like late October 1999. Did we not sign Darren Eadie for £3m quite soon after this? Was it instead of Booth (makes sense spending all that money tbh)

Mad that it still didn't really work out for us and Eadie was perennially injured as well.
