I still think there is a player there.  He needed to adjust his game... when we haven't got the ball and when we have.  Part of this was simultaneously trying to change his role.  But with the right one 2 one coaching and video work he can be sorted.  His footballing skills and fitness are a given... we just need to change what he is trying to do and his decision making

Totally see your point. BR played him in a more aggressive attacking midfield role during pre season and he seemed more hungry both going forward and running back imo.

Monaco have been priced-out in a deal for Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumaré after the Monegasques' management deemed a €20m price-tag to be too high for the player.

(@lequipe)

Sold a midfielder for nearly €100 million but cant afford €20 million, dont you just love the Continental clubs 👌🏻

I wish that I could see how many times that I’ve posted this but it’s more than just “laziness” with Soumare.

He genuinely (based on PL matches not pre-season games) lacks a positional sense for the most physically demanding league.

I’d love to be proven wrong but he won’t be the first and definitely won’t be the last to struggle to adjust to the PL.

It genuinely isn’t hard to know where you need to be on the pitch. Sometimes you get caught out no matter what. Good coaching should fix it quickly - that doesn’t appear to have happened.

Soumare  is a quality player who we would be stupid to let go if there is a realistic and sensible approach which could see him stay.

Funny because there’s a vid of him beasting Kante in the champions league. Really weird player

.. perhaps when you and your manager are agreed on your role, you can then perform to the best of your ability!!!

I think these players are available but nobody has been in for them.

I sort of get it. He hasnt really done enough to prove he was worth that fee. If it sounds good to us, its probably bad for them

Exactly.  Would you pay 20 million for Soumare?  Why is another club cheap because they don't want to bail us out of a mistake?

We should've taken a small loss on Soumare and sold for around 15M. He looks good when the pace is slower, eg preseason, EL and ECL, but once the PL starts, his deficiencies are going to be on display again. Which given his mental health struggles is not going to be good for him.

It beggars belief. We're haggling over a bit of money that we're only going to end up overpaying by later in the window anyway because we've left it late.

We really aren't in a position to haggle over a couple of million.

I agree

But my feeling is keep him and get him performing.
There’s a few of Rodgers signings that are underperforming for the club.

He’s the manager, on an astronomical salary, and he must do his job with these players.
Perez is another example. I believe he’s better than what we generally seen of him.

Soumare is a quality player we should keep, but only if his mental health issues can be resolved. There is a great player in there.

Exactly this.  If his head is sorted and he's happy then he has the potential to be the player our scouts thought they were signing.

I just can't believe we'd have signed him as others have suggested if he really does have no positional sense etc.  Yes the French league isn't the premier league but I think that's always overdone.  They aren't Sunday league teams over there and I'm sure if you are totally crap, wandering out of position etc you're getting found out.

I am hoping if he is settled we see a different Soumare.  Time will tell.

...Torino in respect of Praet are cheapskate opportunist!!!

Soumare did not cost us £20m and any prospective buyer are doing what they should do, trying to get the best deal.

It was perceived at the time that we bought him under market value. Perhaps thats in our mind in negotiations. It shouldn't be, but can't see why we'd be unhappy with the offer otherwise.

Genuinely not trying to deliberately be a dick but this isn’t some lad that they’ve grabbed off the street.

He would have been playing with elite coaches since what age?

This mindset of spending a few more weeks with our coaches really doesn’t sit with me….having played at a very poor standard in comparison, one thing that I noticed was a players naturally ability to have awareness on the pitch, players around them etc - they say top players do this effortlessly.

Happy for anyone to quote me on this but Soumare and evidence in a Leicester kit is that he isn’t suitable for the physicality and demand of a fast tempo that is required for a top level CM in the PL.

Hamza is a prime example, other than his allergicness to the ball he isn’t cut out for us due to his shocking positional sense.

Soumare is in the same category, throw in his lack of athleticism to then even put a player under pressure makes it stand out even more.

Absolute tosh mate. He is more than capable physically. His issues lay elsewhere and they are more delicate and nuanced. IF those issues can be resolved and or mitigated, we will have a solid player on our hands. If not, then he needs to go somewhere he can be more at peace.

Tosh?

So my eyes made up the numerous players that ghosted past him.

There is a difference in someone’s physical appearance and physicality - he is a big, strong lad but would have a Jordan Henderson DM or as others have said, KDH has done everything that Soumare didn’t do.

What has he shown, please don’t quote pre-season friendlies as the barometer that has shown he can cut it in the Prem?

Letting players ghost post you and I repeat this happened EVERY single match he played in, is NOT acceptable at an elite level…scrap that ANY level.

We aren't asking £20m.

Try reading it again, it's 20m euros or £16.84m which I though was about what we paid for him.

Correct, I've heard we've arranged a mid winter friendly against Coalville Town.

Keep
