While this statement is fair comment in most cases, Starmer actually knows his football. Well, as much as any Arsenal fan can ever claim to.

He's no David 'West Hotspurts Albion' Cameron.

His episode on the ‘football cliches podcast’ was actually really fun too.

A hugely pivotal moment in English sport. I hope this does inspire a generation to grow the game, get more people in through the turnstiles and keep it going.

Football really is the most incredible sport in the world, however much the mens game with all its corruption and greed tries to break us, we still cannot walk away as its our everything.

Some great characters in this squad, loved Jill Scott's reaction to that German player near the end 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Can someone explain what exactly has 'come home '?..

The song 'Footballs coming home ' ...30 years of hurt etc , referred to 1966 and The World Cup win.

Ok, the World Cup would be 'coming home ' if we ever win it again (highly unlikely)... but the Doris's have just won the Euros!  So fvck all has 'come home '😂😂..

The stupid English love their 3 word mantras don't they?..any excuse to wave their little union jack flags.

Footballs coming home.

Get Brexit done.

Oven ready deal.

Hope so too. But I think it's already begun. WSL crowds are on the up and the accessibility of the league has improved, especially in terms of 'airtime' on the main channels. That will only improve and enhance as the years go on.

What England have just done is hugely game-changing for the better in this country though.

That game yesterday, let alone the tournament as a whole, would have inspired millions of youngsters, be it girls or boys. Football is universal and yesterday epitomised that. Some of the players yesterday would have been inspired by the team that got to the final in 2009 so you can only imagine what yesterday and the past few weeks have done. I hope it continues for a long time!

It didn’t. The “football’s coming home” in the song just referred to the fact England were hosting it and was written for a Euros tournament. It’s nothing to do with the World Cup or bringing home a trophy, the “30 years of hurt” was just how long at the time since England had won anything.

Jesus christ it's taken me far too long to know this lol That makes so much sense now I've seen somebody say it. I think the references to the world cup also made me think it was a world cup song all this time haha. So football has come home twice already in the past 2 years. We can get rid of the annoying phrase now and pop it in the bin.

Quality stuff yesterday and was amazing to see the crowd and hear the noise for it. It'll be interesting to see how the game develops over the next decade or two. It'd be amazing if the women's game could actually remain entertaining and not just turn into the game of keep ball and defend that the top level mens game has become.

I hope every single one of them is waking up with a banging headache today :D remarkable tournament from the ladies.

Well that's boll**ks then!😂...

Winning the Euros cannot be compared to winning The World Cup!  That's like comparing winning The Championship to The PL!

That isn’t true, the euros is a major competition that sits up there with the World Cup and is just as tough to win.

How is it as tough to win when half the World's international teams aren't even in it?😂😂...

That's like saying the PL is just as tough to win if you take out about 8 of the top clubs!.

What? you still have the best teams in it, bar argentina and Brazil for men and USA for women. It might be like winning the PL without Chelsea and Man U… not 8 top teams… what 8 teams are better than what is in Europe for either men or women…

the championship doesn’t have Man City, Liverpool etc… while euros you still have france, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland I can go on

I normally hate this phrase but to quote the internet your salty tears are delicious. Thanks for posting this, reading it was a real pick me up on Monday morning.
