Enjoyed the 2nd half more than the first. There's some very promising talent in our academy. They played with spirit and intensiteeeee and just a tad of youthful naivety.

Thought the ex-Villa trialist (name escapes me, Aphasia?) knew how to defend corner. For that reason alone, we have to be interested.

...ex-Villa, we have reaped a big reward from that situation before, let's do it all again!!!

He was someone who impressed me, always looking to move us forward, can break lines from deep, not worried about him being part of the "registered squad".

Missed the game, how many of the goals conceded were from set pieces?

This was intended as a joke but just watched it he “highlights”… We have just restarted right where we left off 😅🤣

Watched the full game on line, Wilson brown did well considering he’s only played as high as 18s before. Wright look bright, lively and confident. Soumare looked okay but still too many touches at times, looked more mobile though which is a start. Daka looked lively with a good assist for Barnes.

Strange how the stands make a pitch look bigger, I’m sure the pitches at seagrave are same size as king power but the lack of stands round today made it look tiny!

....it was a lovely weighted pass, looked like a genuine midfielder, saw the run, and picked him out!!!

Daka has very good ball skills, we probably won't get to see him taking on and beating a man as we seek to find him on the move. He is good enough to play with his back to goal and spinning his man, I think he would be harder to contain and threaten a defence, playing that way in the lone striker's position we are asking of him.

Leicester City handed run-outs to two trialists on Saturday as they lost to Notts County in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Paul Appiah and Deniche Hill both enjoyed run-outs as part of the youthful second-half side fielded by Brendan Rodgers, a period during which Aden Baldwin scored the winner for the National League visitors. Both Appiah and Hill have been training with the club over the first couple of weeks of pre-season, but this was their first opportunity to show the club how they performed in matches.

The duo are being looked at as potential recruits for City's development squad as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of the new Premier League 2 season. This term, the age limit of the competition is coming down from under-23 to under-21.

Centre-back Appiah is the more established of the two. The 19-year-old has been in the academy system for some time, spending a few years with Chelsea before joining Aston Villa in 2019.

There, he helped them win the FA Youth Cup in 2021, captaining one of their games during their run to the trophy, and scoring in the quarter-final. Last season, he played seven times for their Under-23s, missing a chunk of the season through injury. Despite that, he was not offered a new deal with Villa and was released this summer.

If Appiah was to get a deal at City, he would not be the first released Villa player to do so in the current regime. Lewis Brunt made the same journey last summer, and went on to make his Premier League debut with the club away at Spurs.

City are well connected with the youth set-up at Villa. Ben Petty, the head coach of the club’s development squad, used to work there before moving across to the East Midlands.

Hill, meanwhile, has emerged from a slightly more unusual route. Already a full international for the Caribbean island of Bermuda, the left-back has emerged from the academy at Brooke House College in Market Harborough.

An international boarding school, Brooke House College has had a football academy since 2008 and it is currently overseen by their technical director Micky Adams, the former City manager. Hill is one of a number of young players who have moved from Bermuda to attend the college.

They have had a few players go on to make it professionally. Jesse Sekidika is a Nigerian winger who played for Galatasaray in Champions League qualifying last season, while Tanzania international Kelvin John is on the books of Belgian side Genk.

Hill hopes to be the next and has already made good progress internationally. After representing Bermuda in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifying last autumn, he got his senior debut for his country in June, playing in a goalless draw with Haiti.

Impossible to draw much out from a run-around match like that.  But a few thoughts in my head are that Wright looked determined and sharp. Nacho looked slow and a bit heavy. 🤷

First pre season game is usually just to start getting fitness and squad together. Interesting to see some young lads and saw some promising signs. I agree about nacho but I guess pre season is the time to sort it out. I actually just enjoyed seeing us out there and result is not really that relevant. They will though as the training continues and the first team starts to come together.

All about fitness until we lose every single match though, isn’t it. Momentum is key.

I am aware it is about sharpness but conceding from set-pieces again, against a fifth tier side is poor. These mistakes need to be rectified before August.

I know every body says results dont matter and it is getting fitness and I  tend to agree but of all the games played on Saturday only Leicester and WBA  lost to sides in a lower league Even this early  top sides tend to hammer lowly teams and  are nowhere near full strength Villa won  4-0 at Walsall  for example

I agree and it was pretty similar last season if I remember and the players seemed very undercooked too.

....just thought I would take a look at the highlights from the game and looked at the Nott's second goal, it was well worked by them!!!

They had 2 players up against our defender on the far post, we have at least 3 of our players not picking up anyone just a line of blue shirts. One of the 2 Notts county players engaging our player on the far post darts forward and cuts into the gap of our defenders just inside the box, by the time they realised he had gone, the ball was in the back of the net with a free header.

We might need to use that move ourselves.

Looks like we're gonna have hell of a fight coming to our way for not to be relegated this season.

Painfully times ahead

we didn't have our first team back four available for 2/3rds of last season and we didn't get relegated...

Honestly is this the first pre-season match you have ever watched cause i do believe you are expecting midseason/ fa cup final performances.
