Impossible to draw much out from a run-around match like that.  But a few thoughts in my head are that Wright looked determined and sharp. Nacho looked slow and a bit heavy. 🤷

Was thinking the same, looks short on fitness. Still, early days

You know what I’ve always wondered if Rodgers sees Barnes as Vardy’s replacement once he retires.

Been saying this since he broke through… I think that’s the long term plan..

But it was basically a training session - played at a training ground with no limit on subs and no crowd. We are lucky in this day and age that it was televised and we were able to watch it live and for free. Feels a bit entitled to complain that it wasn't entertaining enough!

Not entitled at all. Just decided that on a lovely summer day that I had better things to do than watching a training session! My personal view is that if we are going to try young players in these games there should be a good smattering of first team squad members along with them so that they can learn from them.

Out come the managers in this thread armed with hindsight who could all obviously do a better job than Rodgers

....he (Barnes) does have the instincts and the ability to finish!!!

Always felt he would be good in the #10 role which would stop him from drifting out of games. It will be hard to contain him in a more central role when people around him are pulling defenders out of their positions.

Given how long its taking us to replace Mahrez I'd leave him where he is lol

I like Barnes a lot and he has a lot of great attributes but I totally disagree about his ability to finish.

I think he’s always lacked composure in front of goal and been a terrible finisher. It’s always been the biggest thing holding him back from pushing onto the next level and becoming a regular England player for me.

....just taking a look around the leagues (YouTube) there are a plethora of left-sided right-footed wingers out there!!!

Even Lookman can do a job in that role. The major problem is convincing the management that bringing in an RW (right-footed player) is worth committing to.

All about fitness as we continue to lose until we get relegated

Good experience though. And besides we were in league one 10 years ago didn't you know?

...I am not sure his figures back up your observation, but, for me, he has the ability to excel in a more central role!!!

Never understand comments like this. Nobody is saying they know better. They're just giving opinions. It's what you do on a forum, right?

Composure I can agree with but I don't think he'd be hitting double figures for us two seasons in a row if he was a terrible finisher. Regardless, I don't think he is or will ever be a striker.

Never understood comments like yours either. But each to their own, eh?

Absolutely. It's what a forum is all about. Would be boring if we agreed all the time. Have a great day!

I think we'd lose too much of his ability to carry the ball at pace if we played him upfront

these sort of games happen all pre season but we aren’t party to results. Last season we lost to Hearts for example but it got a minor by mention in an Edinburgh newspaper

Wouldnt be surprised if we have played some this week hence the lack of first teamers

Honestly I'd put all pre season games behind closed doors and out of the media. You gain nothing out of this.

Tinpot Friendly or not, surely we should be winning games against this sort of opposition. However, wish it hadn’t been publicised or shown on LCTV as it’s just caused negativity all round.

It only causes negativity for those looking for it, which seems to be a lot of people atm.

Why are you on this forum?

Is was our first pre season friendly where we played some trialists and academy lads.

The only thing we can legitimately learn from this, and inexplicably we still need to learn this, is that we need to work on defending set pieces.

It is beyond a joke at this point.
