So why haven't we signed anyone yet? (Genuine question)

because the club doesn't want players hanging around that aren't in the 25 man squad

Good workout, they certainly upped the anti too, it was good to see us match that with some fight. Early signs bode well in terms of the effort, and the energy levels. We just need to sort the defensive issues out, which hopefully we can with a returning Wilf or a new signing.

So you have in-depth knowledge of the clubs financial position?

Go and look at Everton. They have bent the FFP rules to the max, but not broke them, much further than we have and as other clubs have done also. If the clubs attitude is to do nothing in these circumstances then I'm not supportive of that position.

In any case, the problem in my view is the clubs handling of players contracts over the last 2no years.

IF Praet was happy to stay as a squad player I’d keep him and Mendy over the likes of Hamza and Soumare

I would keep Doris the tea lady over Hamza and Soumare

We have lost 130m over the last 3 years, it's not sustainable even with a billionaire owner.

A blinding broadside at one of our better players from that era.

Top spite.

Fryatt was quality til he had that serious injury, I see him out an about sometimes in Lichfield with his family, so is he working for the club now as a media pundit ?

Although Soumare seems to be copping most of the stick  none of the defenders played well. Tactically I always think the full backs play too high and offer little cover for the centre halves so a simple ball over the top or down the line causes problems.

Part of what Rodgers calls overloading the flanks by pushing the full back up; I also think this hinders Barnes and cuts down his space. Some games last season you had Barnes, KDH and Justin within about 10 yards of each other (together with their 3 markers) meaning there's no space to run in.

....this has always been the problem with the WBs, pushed high up the pitch leaves us vulnerable at the back!!!

I am not sure we really know how to play with WBs, WBs do not exert the pressure we should do and teams exploit the spaces vacated when they push to support.

I would say most of the first half was a shambles, can tell Leuven are a lot further in their pre-season as they were a lot fitter and quicker but the individual mistakes and defensive sloppiness just made it even worse

Seems like Rodgers might have given the lads a bit of a bollocking at half time as the first 11 were much better in the 15 minutes they played in the 2nd half

2nd 11 were doing alright and controlling the game until an Amartey brain fart

Good to see a lot of players get plenty of game time, and we didn't concede from a corner!

A pretty fun match to watch as well

I wonder how many times the term ‘an Amartey brain fart’ gets used on FT this coming season.
I just pray Fofana and Evans stay fit

🙏

Love Praet to stay would give us great depth and surely would get enough games in rotation and injuries.

Is it so much that Praet wants to leave or that Rodgers wants him to leave?

Does anyone know?

There’s nothing I see in Praet that would make me absolutely want to sell him? He’s every bit as good as Perez for instance.

A lot more than it would if you still have a weird hatred of the bloke.

If Tielemans is leaving, then surely a commitment on playing time for Praet would not be hard to stomach. Of course that if is the name of the elephant in the room right now.

Thought Dennis played decently, but more just that what he offered was unrecognisable in comparison to our other midfielders, which was intriguing.

As I've said, we can and must go further even if it means overlapping the work that is needed in Rudders department particularly in sales.

To be fair, it don’t bode well if the first time the phrase has been used on here is in a pre season friendly against Leuven does it?

😉

Easy to spend someone else's money

Obviously Fofana and Evans are miles ahead of our other options but if we're using pre-season as a barometer for anything it's worth noting we hardly looked solid with them either 😂
