It's me guys.

I departed Leicester when we were in top six of the Championship and King Nige at the helm. I moved to Birmingham. My next LCFC game sees Vardy show his prowess and Nuge chase squirrels across Loftus Park.

I now depart Birmingham in the coming weeks with a house in waiting located in South Leicestershire. Everyone knows what happened in the intervening years and now we are returning back to being woeful.

Rudkin. The answer is Rudkin who's responsible.

He can take his share of credit the successes but the current state of the squad and the problems that are coming next summer are all on him. As others have mentioned, its his job to manage the recruitment and contract side of things.

Lots of work needed and a whole summer has been wasted as the club has been hamstrung by the high wages of deadwood players. I think we'll be seeing midtable table wilderness over the next 2-3 years whilst the club rebuilds.

Maybe because it’s not nearly as bad as half the doom mongers make out. You’d never believe it, but we are currently having the most successful period in the clubs history!

Since we returned to tue top flight we’ve won the league, the FA Cup, played in Europe more times than the combined amount of times we have in the history of the club.

Sold the most expense defender in world football. Made way more than we’ve lost on transfers. Got a brand new state of the art training ground and have plans in place for a stadium expansion as well as seeing the biggest away win in Premier League history, being consistently one of the highest scorers in the league and seeing some of the best players in the clubs history at the same time.

But yeah, we didn’t sign anyone ans a couple of contracts are up next year.

Not to mention toon reaching a European semi final during a “poor” season…. Couldn’t write it.

You said they had all improved their squads, and as I've said a dozen times so far. No, they've just signed players. They could be shit, they could have lost four players and signed one, they could have lost their best players and replaced them with frees. So it's a fact we are the only team to not sign a player, not the only team to have not strengthened. We might be getting into semantics here.

Back to the original point about Rudkin, do we really blame him for signing players the head of recruitment said we should sign? I don't expect Rudkin to scout players personally, it's questionable he should even have a great deal of opinion on it. And if we're saying well the person at the top is ultimately responsible, then we might as well say it's Top as he's left Rudkin in his position.

He also can't force players to sign new contracts, or force other clubs to buy players like Youri and Soyuncu with a year left. You could argue their has been a shift in recent years to players looking to run down contracts to get moves, as clubs are asking ridiculous sums for players, it's likely we're going to get stung from that. Just like others probably will to some extent (See Kane, see Rice).

Oh and Rudkin isn't in charge of FFP. If UEFA put in a new set of rules, all he can do is now try and shape the squad to fit within them.

We've also had Covid and several off field projects that can be a large drain on finances, which ultimately goes further up the chain the Susan and Top.  The situation we're in isn't ideal, but it's not really a mess if we've still got a squad capable of a top 10 finish.

This...from beginning end.  Well said.

Blame culture coming in strong still I see.

Why on earth not? This is the fans club as much as anything else and someone needs to be held accountable for this mess. Why should football get away with it?

The person(s) who signed the contracts for Vestie and Bertrand don’t only need to be sacked, they need shooting!

Whilst this is correct, moaning about it on a forum trying to nitpick and discuss who may/may not be at fault is a massive waste of anyone's time, unless anyone actually plans on taking their thoughts to the club itself

It's all part of the long term plan, everyone knows the whole point of having one of the best trainng grounds in the world is to bring through your own homegrown talent. What we're seeing now is a bit of an interim period but when young homegrown players dominate the squad, all the stuff about wages, contracts running out and lack of signings will be immaterial. Have patience.

Also correct, but this a place to vent, as irritatingly pervasive and far reaching as that venting often is.

It’s a football forum and it’s a relevant thread!

Fair, I should clarify then perhaps that I would agree that the term "mess" definitely would be a little bit dramatic to describe the stalling over the stadium expansion or the on-field situation, the latter of which in particular I think we can attribute to unfortunate injuries and be optimistic about the future.

But I do think "mess" is a fair word to describe the current state of our wage and contract situation and I think people acting like the word is melodramatic are being a little bit overly defensive. The man said "mess", not "catastrophic fvcking calamity."

Edit: just as an aside, I'm being quoted left right and centre and an trying to both reply and also do my day job. Apologies to anyone that feels I'm ignoring you or dodging any debate.

You really shouldn’t be writing on here when you’re doing your paper round lad.

You might fall off your chopper!

Bit more resilience and perspective would not cause injury though

This is a debate forum where our opinions can be aired. Like them or not - agree or disagree.

I had no intention of nitpicking or hanging out people to dry - I merely pointed to the fact that looking at things from the outside - as I suppose we all do - something is not right at the moment and it does not seem to be rectified which in a multi million business is very unusual....

There is no ‘mess’ we are a bit short of cash and have a bloated squad. Nothing that can’t sort itself out inside a year or 2

Man, would life be boring if you were only allowed to discuss things you have immediate control over. You'd have a good couple of days and then it'll be "right, I need to go and do some mad sh*t for 6 months so we've got something to talk about"
