Grebfromgrebland Posted 5 June 2023 Posted 5 June 2023 If he can stay a bit fit he'll be an asset next season. Still our best defender, so clever compared to anyone else at the club. I can't imagine he'll price himself out of a contract. 3
dylanlegend Posted 5 June 2023 Posted 5 June 2023 Yes not sure why the negativity around this. He’s a top defender and if he had played double what he played last season I doubt we’d have gone down. Just having him in the team for those last 3 games provided some stability and leadership. We need to keep some players bloody hell 3

Popular Post The_77 Posted 6 June 2023 Popular Post Posted 6 June 2023 I’m less concerned by his injuries and more concerned by how he didn’t have the slightest clue about how we got relegated. 11 3
st albans fox Posted 6 June 2023 Posted 6 June 2023 If a new contract has a large chuck related to him being available for selection then I’m ok with it. He is still our best CB. We will likely have faes and souttar as our starting two but will need to have cover because there is no way that they can manage to play every game 1

Would be surprised if that amounted to twenty games next season.
Popular Post Soar Fox Posted 6 June 2023 Popular Post Posted 6 June 2023 He’s oversaw 2 relegations as captain in 5 years. The bloke isn’t a leader. 13

The $64 question if he can stay fit and we use last season as an example, no he can’t .
BillyFOX12 Posted 6 June 2023 Posted 6 June 2023 There’s no leader in this current squad, it’s as simple as that. 4

Exactly. He'll be our club captain next year and we'll be leaderless on the pitch again, spelling more trouble for us. He'll play about 15 games and spend at least half the season injured. Let him go, will be a waste of a wage. 4
Bazly Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 Best gone, too old and too slow and too injury prone. Did I mention too expensive also? Or not a great leader? Or not up for a Championship fight, was way too happy to depart WBA when he helped get them relegated. 1

We need to keep some players bloody hell 100k a week for a crocked player who's got a career ending ankle injury. Isn't this the reason we got relegated? Shelling out mega wages to injured players who arent available? Evans, Bertrand, Ricky P, Vesty etc.... We need to start with a clean slate and let the incoming manager pick a new captain. 5 1
ozvaldo Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 If he can keep himself fit, he’d be great. But I don’t think he is up for 46 games tbh. Also, personally I just don’t see him as a leader. I think we need someone with more grit and energy in the Chammo. He’s too quiet. I’d prefer someone like KDH getting the armband for next season.
Diffco Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 He'd have to cut to 20k a week for it to even be viable, then even if he did he'll have to deal with loads of games or potential career ending injury. As captain. Not to mention the fact he seems to be a crap captain. Who couldn't combat relegation. I'd get him off the books. 1
foxinsocks Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 who is making this decision - what if the new manager doesn't want him? are we making decisions in the right order? 1

Everything I can see says he signed a 4 year deal in 2019 and that it runs until 2023 ...did he not sign an extension for a year!!! Signed new contract in June 5 which will expire June 30 2024.
Samilktray Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 The bloke is made out of soggy rich tea biscuits, can you imagine him playing more than 10 games in the championship? Not a bloody chance 1

No record of a contract extension being signed, he's in talks with the club. His current contract expires at the end of June hence why he didn't leave the club with the 7 others. From his interviews doesn't scream he wants to come back or is up to the challenge.
smudgerfox Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 Get rid - stole a taxi while on tour with a WBA that got relegated - no leader and a massive injury/illness risk - I agree with others in here who say we’re not hard headed enough - too sentimental - if we’re making a clean start let’s make a clean start …

Gamble92 Posted 7 June 2023 Posted 7 June 2023 Always liked him but the last couple of weeks he's shown everything that's wrong with our club. If you can talk with such a lukewarm, pathetic temperament for our club when there's kids who'd ****ing die to wear that shirt then get the **** outta here. I've had enough of these people.

The club literally states on the official site that they’ve extended his contract by a year.

All finishing contracts end at the end of June. Just because they've announced those players will be leaving, they are still technically under contract until 30th June.
