The worst thing about the New Labour government was that for years afterwards it resulted in loads of divorced dad types with user names like TonyBliarNewLaBORE1964 clogging up internet message boards and particularly those of local newspapers getting furious about things like cycle lanes and the council spending money on literally anything

Truss is hardly cutting taxes by a massive amount.  Remember, they will get most of it back through VAT anyway!

They are cutting taxes on millionaires not everyday people. On the other side of the coin, they’re not suddenly going to start spending all of it when it’s extra hundreds of thousands on top of already millions. A lot of it will go into savings where they don’t pay VAT and the banks instead will pay interest on it, further increasing the money supply and inflation.

It goes to show how much a government can take pizz and people would still trust them and vote for them. Frightening.

Like, what would the Tories have to do for these people to think 'Hmm maybe I shouldn't vote for these monsters..'

Or they are just stupid.

At risk of bringing some accuracy into this debate, they are cutting NIC by 1.25% and they are cutting basic rate income tax by 1%.

Love how this headline grabbing 45% tax abolition is worth so little in comparison to the billions borrowed to solve the fuel crisis.

But, they did mess up quite badly by not publishing the OBR report though, this is more at fault for market instability than everything else I reckon

for total accuracy, they are reversing the NI Rise that the Tory Government themselves implemented earlier in the year. It's a U turn.

in the same way they reduced Universal Credit by £20 a week and then gave the poorest in society £1100 for "support" 12 months later... they just gave them back what they had already taken.

"Whataboutery" changes the subject....

I prefer a nice debate.  In fact, I think politics in general would benefit from reasoned debate, rather than mud slinging.

I'm naturally left leaning, but i'm still happy to discuss people's views and why they think that way.

saves everyone just reverting to partisan lines and calling each other communists or Posh W*nkers.

Probably not conservative, always have done but not super keen on them at the minute.

Definitely not labour - they’re good at holding the ruling party to account but that’s it.

I’m not particularly impressed by Lib Dems, so not them.

The other parties are either ones I don’t know enough about or else don’t agree with them at all.

If there’s a solid Christian running independently, I might vote for them or else will probably spoil my ballot.

My apologies, I mistook the comment. I wholeheartedly agree on the discussion comment, and there is plenty to discuss at this difficult time, both domestically and abroad.

Historically tend slightly to the right, but those familial leanings are waning and not finding it straightforward I must confess  lol

Because they have finally got rid of the nitwit wot woz in charge.  Given me my highest pay rise in 10 years through the tax an NI changes, and because the country is mostly ****ed because of things that were outside of their control.

Labour haven't offered a real alternative... as always.

You must have your head in the sand

Just had a quick look at religious parties in the UK and thankfully they're so insignificant that there's nothing to worry about. Which is a relief because some of their policies are so utterly repugnant.

I dunno, I like women barefoot and pregnant, LGBT folks in the closet or their lives will be ruined socially and legislatively, and the environmental future of this Earth ignored because the next life is more important. Don't you?

(Of course, #notallreligiousfolks.)

Says @leicsmac whilst busily shepherding those of a religious bent into the closet he just drove the LGBT community from

Touche, though come back when the power balance in the UK and more importantly around the world is anywhere close to equal between those two groups and we'll talk about how remarks about either hold equal weight and meaning beyond just the words.

Anyone have any advice on how to get through to Tory voting parents who STILL insist they'll vote Tory, even now?

Parents that are working class and vote 'because immigrants'?

Also read, how to point out the blindingly obvious to the intellectually challenged?

Of course, it was but a rare opportunity to score a pointless point  lol

The doctor, nurse or carer they might need could well be an immigrant. The person picking the crops they eat could also be from abroad.
