English Premier League clubs with local support expressed through season ticket address proximity

Don't know if it's because we're not as densely populated or if we're sort of one of the bigger clubs outside the big 6 or if we are the biggest club in the largest radius compared to other PL clubs?

Because 7 miles would have given them the results they wanted when completing the survey.

They would have the data for 5, 10, 20 7 would have told the story whoever published this wanted to tell.

Looks like it is just something some Everton fan on Twitter made to wind up Liverpool fans lol

There isn’t a decent sized settlement within 7 miles of Leicester but if you increased it to say 10 or 12, there’s plenty. We are a one club County and this partly illustrates that

Probably why us and Forest are quite low down the list as we're not densely populated cities with both counties having just the one real team!!

Incredible scenes that despite being in East Goscote I'm not considered local because it's 7.7miles as the crow flies to the KP.

I'd imagine if they did this research based on postcode ie LE we would rapidly fly up that table.

But thanks to whoever provided this pointless insight to suit their needs lol

7 miles! I live 13 miles away in LEICESTERshire.

Support your local team!

In all honesty it’s a silly survey and tells us nothing, 7 miles as a locality is a different experience for every area. Football is about identity and if you live in Leicestershire and identify with the city then there’s a valid reason to support the club. But I cannot stand those who live in the county and are always slagging the city off, it may not always be the best but if you support us, then embrace it.

To be fair, I don’t have a Leeds postcode and I’m about 5 miles from Elland Road. Leeds is my closest city centre but I’m also within the 7 miles from Wakefield and Bradford (possibly Hudds) city centres too.

Pointless exercise. A club like Norwich would be well down, for example, despite the fact they'll have many, many fans who still support the most local team to them despite living miles away.

Our support is primarily drawn from the county and the largest towns; Loughborough, Coalville, Hinckley, Melton, Harborough etc are all c. 10-15 miles away from the city centre. It’s very abitrary.

I also get the feeling we have a big contingent of fans who’ve moved away.

Don't forget Oakham and Uppingham in that list.

I can sort of see what the survey is trying to suggest but perhaps a better way to look at it would be something like shirt sales - what proportion are within, say, 20 miles of the club or the county?

...surely you would have to compile a database, on who the shirt was sold to, their address and their current membership ID number!!!

Perhaps the 7 miles was a distance which allowed the best dividual club catchment area, from the individual club's stadium. Birmingham should have produced an interesting contrast as a conurbation it would throw up some stats that may have turned this report on its head.
