You have to ask what a young Qatari ref is doing officiating this game and making it a little bit about him.

 

You would think that other nations might have experienced referees who would be more appropriate.

Most of it sounded like a covid match on the telly. Although I liked the USA version of the Iceland thunderclap.

I know everyone worships Bale, and he might still lash in a set piece, but he's been fairly anonymous, apart from a booking.

 

Admittedly, it's hard to shine when your midfield are being squeezed out of the game.

Not sure if some of the criticism here is deliberate rage bait or just naivety really. 

 

The USA are good at basically one thing, they're extremely fit, extremely athletic and they press phenomenally well. We're not really a good enough side on the ball to beat it at the moment. 

 

I mean the plan is obviously to absorb the pressure and then release Wilson, Bale and James on the break but we just can't get any time at the moment to beat that initial press. Credit where its due they are very good at it and a lot of how we're playing is down to how hard the USA are working. 

 

We need to beat the press and find an out. Without Allen that might need to involve Moore and going longer. That or hoping they tire but I'm not sure the conditions are hot enough for that.

I suspect even if Wales don't get anything from this match they will play better against England and beat Iran.

Bale is having a stinker so far as is the rest of the Welsh team, but you wait probably score a worldie now. But just shows really what one man team Wales are at the moment, Bale plays poor and soo do Wales. Even though its only 0-1 of game one, it shows Wales have no plan B for if Bale he's no playing well or not available.

Not sure if he's over-the-hill or perhaps not fit. Wasn't there some doubt about his availability leading up to this? Whatever, he's not worth a place in the team currently.
