Im laughing at how you ignored my final comment. You're speaking as though our opponents have been on par with Lithuania. From memory

 

Colombia - we were probably favourites but overwhelmingly? No.

Sweden - probably the same as above

Croatia - again, see above

 

Germany - even, no? Home advantage probably gave us the edge

Ukraine - see the first 3 lol

Denmark - above

Italy - see Germany

 

Senegal - probably the easiest of all knockout games Southgate has had

France - no.

 

There's no shame in losing to the world champions in 2022 who at the time were probably favourites to win this year aswell. There's also no shame in losing to what was a good Italy side, even if we did have home advantage. We've done a heck of a lot better in our last three knockout phases than the three before. No doubt we've had favourable runs to our eventual exit round, but they're not teams we should be demolishing like you probably expect us to, especially when we've struggled against the likes of Costa Rica and Iceland in recent years.

It’s an improvement over the years of embarrassment that is for sure, and we are still on the up. Just not there yet to beat the very best. We certainly played well against France and were somewhat unlucky
