If it is in fact true that the club would only let him go to the championship and their were takers in L1.

Whos decision? Well presume it was nothing to do with Cooper as he has refused to use him and had several chances already.

"If" it's true.

Braybrooke has gone to the SPL, nobody objected. You have to wonder why there weren't more teams interested.

That’s especially because Alves did not go out on loan. While many of his peers, like Ben Nelson, Sammy Braybrooke, and Chris Popov, headed out for senior experience, Alves stayed put, with Cooper suggesting City were not willing to let him go to the wrong club.

“He’s part of what we’re doing,” Cooper said. “It’s on everybody to play their way into the right side of decisions. We really like Will. He’s a good young player.

"We have a strong programme for him. It might have included a loan for him, but if it did, it had to be right for him. I’d rather him stay with us than go on a loan that I didn’t think would be right for him. We’ll continue to work with him, and he can work himself into the right side of decisions. It’s the same for everybody.”

So does Cooper rate him or not?

He says he does in this article and in interviews.

There's a lot of unknowns. We don't know what clubs came in for him, Jordan Blackwell says from what he was told the club were surprised at the lack of appropriate clubs wanting him.

Perhaps there's concerns on his fitness, he had several niggles last season after returning just before Christmas. But there comes a point where he has to play games. Being managed on game time aged 19 at his stage of his career is critical and if his body isn't up to it then that's a worry. Hopefully it'll all iron itself out in the next 12 months. A loan move in January if he hasn't broken through here, which will be tough in this current battle for PL survival.

He is very good at saying all the right stuff. I can see why he got the job once it got to interview stage.

This.

People blag interviews all the time, in fact it's the shittest way to determine if somebody is right for a job or not - trust me, come to my workplace. You can train for an interview, you can get really, really good at them, but it in no way means you are suitable for the job you are applying for or not.

Needs to change his first name to Billy I reckon. It worked briefly for Billy Gilmour. He was never making it as Will Gilmour. Tell me I’m wrong ( don’t, because then you’d be wrong )

Certain players will not be allowed to go out on loan to teams in divisions / leagues where certain styles are played.

If said styles do not suit a prospect then why would the club release them to an environment that will not develop their game?

There is far more to be lost than gained by the club, if the wrong loan is arranged in certain Instances.

Actions speak louder than words. If Cooper really thought anything of Will, he would've started him against Tranmere and Walsall. He's not getting any game time bar a catastrophic injury crisis, so he's better off going on loan in January.

I don't think it's just that, with Alves and his recent injury history they'll want a club where they know he will be taken care of, and where he will be used sensibly.

Barnsley as an example, who were rumoured to have serious interest, have just had a massive turnover in their medical department and have a pretty poor injury record of late. It's a different club to the one we loaned Barnes to as part of his development and maybe the club don't think it was worth the risk despite what they may have been able to offer in footballing terms.

You'd think our DoF also being the academy director would be boon for our young players getting chances. It's bizarre to build the world's best, or the most expensive at the very least, training complex and then appoint managers who don't play younger players.

The idea Steve Cooper is good with youth comes from his successful spell as u17 manager - where obviously he couldn't play 30+ year old has beens like Ayew.

nobody’s taking him from the championship if he doesn’t get minutes with us though. He should have done a few months in league 1 then championship club in jan imo.

Lost his place in the England U20s.

Yet another reason to get the Cooper out.

We are probably paying Ayew and Decordova Reid £2m+ a year to do the square root of **** all just because they have Prem experience.  How anyone can think this is positive that we have them in the squad with a £20m+ outlay over the next few years is beyond me.

All of the big clubs play there promising youngsters.  How can we know if Alves will be good enough unless we play him!!  For him to lose his place in the England U20 squad because of probable lack of game time is a disgrace. Every time I have seen his cameos, he looks something different to what we have and will have so much more hunger to succeed at the club he supports.

I don’t take much value in who Cooper rates.

It’s a shame he’s getting any experience but no experience would be better than Coopers.

Progress is stalled at the moment possibly struggling following horrendous injury.

Needs a league one or two loan in January.

Needs to get game sharp in open aged League football.

If he does well we can integrate him

Into the squad,in the Championship next season.

I think Cooper is waiting for some heads to start dropping before bringing in the younger players to give fresh impetus.

i genuinely can’t think of any other legitimate reason why he hasn’t even had more time on the pitch

Because he's all about premier league experience....

That might be his excuse but the fact we haven’t won a game yet doesn’t make it a legitimate reason..

Yes indeed, but Cooper won't give the likes of Alves a chance, while he is here.
