Great pod again, guys. Excited for the 24hr pod! And please for the sake of all of our sanity, keep it going as often as poss during the summer. We need your hot takes on Trump's World Cup and the inevitable floods of ins and outs at our club. (Not forgetting the summer bangers ofc) :appl:

Haven’t listened to the new episode but I’d definitely listen to episodes that weren’t really even about Leicester

I wish I could beam this episode directly into the cerebral cortex of the KPFC “be careful what you wish for” divs.

a hell of a pod

Kin ell... thats a grim listen too. I knew it was bad but listening to Charlie Methven's views, didn't realise it was this bad.

Edit to add; I know at lot was based on opinions and hope to god he is wrong. Sadly fear he is going to end up being bang on. fml

I thought Jamie was excellent too, but I disagree with his view that it’s a shame some people have left the Trust over its direction post-reform. If they take issue with it no longer being an old boys’ club cosying up to ownership, then the Trust is better off without them.

Listened to this. Really informative. Worth 50 minutes of time. We need to get some plans made and then act quickly. The club cannot afford to sit on its hands. There is going to need to be significant cost savings.

It’s interesting he said that there’s a lot of medium size clubs up for sale. It does beg the question of who the hell is stupid enough to buy us in this state? It’s going to take administration isn’t it …

Surely from Tops perspective like Methven says paying someone to come in and sort the mess out pays for itself as the club is worth more, you can sell it then if saving face is the Thai way getting us back to a top half championship team, is where we historically have been and where we were when KP took over, get us back there balance the books and it has to be a net positive with the League and FA Cup wins. First priority would be to rent the training ground out to someone else, get the right manager in and get a strong captain in.

This is why him doubling down on Rudkin, Davies et al really makes this current ownership untenable. He had one last chance to really prove he knew what was required to save us and he's done this.

That is one thing I did not agree with. We have always been a yo yo club. Arguably too good for championship but not good enough for the top tier. We certainly have not been a bottom half championship team. Don't disagree with your points. The biggest issue is getting some of the high earners out. I doubt anyone will compete with "Generous Leicester" for some of the dross we will have left.

Yep, I’ve been a supporter since 1992 and in that time we’ve finished in the bottom half of the second division or lower six times. And five of those were in a row 2005-09.

Aside from that a very interesting interview with Methven. He came across as a bit of a plonker in the Sunderland documentary but clearly knows his stuff.

Another great guest lads, but I can't listen to it despite knowing how good it'll be. I've totally had my fill of hearing how fvcked we are. 4 months off of LCFC has come at the perfect time.

Think most of the fan base need a breather!

Best thing about this season is that fact it's over!

Does Aiyawatt understand the meaning of loss, risk and consequence?

To understand the way Aiyawtt runs things, I think you have to understand his psychy, what is it like to be a billionaires son, how does that affect your judgement?

I don’t know much about Thai culture but always been worried that the “pride” you hear about will mean he basically refuses to sell

Interesting that Methven mentions the club got in touch with him re: his comments on that Business In Sport appearance that was quite widely circulated; but that their only stance was challenge, challenge, challenge. Never any introspective reflection with this lot. If enough people are telling you you're doing a shite job, if the constant noise is letting you know something is terminally wrong – stop being so ****ing defensive and sort it out you fat idiots. They must be hearing what people are saying if they're reaching out to a neutral party on the basis of a podcast appearance.

That was my observation too

I was quite surprised the club got wind of it and listened to it, never mind then responded to it

God forbid they front up to the fans though

I made the mistake of trying to listen to it before going to sleep because I woke up to the dulcet tones of Darude not long after 😆  The Charlie stuff was fascinating and terrifying in equal measure, bloody well done for getting him on 👏🏻

It was his comments on the relegation clauses that clearly pissed them off. He suggested we don’t put them (a claim that has been repeated across social media). To be fair I don’t really blame the club for correcting this if it isn’t true because it’s actually quite important.

What isn’t in dispute is that the club has been taking loans from Macquarie to meet day-to-day running costs. As Methven pointed out, you only do this if you have to—nobody would choose to pay loan interest if they were in a healthy enough position to wait for the parachute payments etc to come in when they were due. The club’s complaint to Methven that this is ‘normal’ is much less convincing than the factual correction about the relegation clauses.

Methven admitted that he doesn’t know what our cost base is this season or will be next season. He clearly suspects it will prove to be unsustainable in League One, but nobody outside of the club knows the true picture. Things are clearly bad—we just don’t know how bad. It’s a shame the transfer window doesn’t open for another six weeks because I’ll feel a lot better if/when we start offloading our remaining high earners in addition to those whose contracts have expired…

Great pod, 100% up for doing the Leicester half for Lamp. Doing the great north run the month before so hopefully my 47 year old legs hold up.
