How Lucky We Are

There's been a lot of doom and gloom around the club lately, maybe rightly so, but the last couple of weeks made things look brighter.

 

Lucky might be the wrong word to use, maybe it should have been fortunate, or something else instead.

 

Anyway, my West Ham supporting mate has just just text me saying "I'd take getting relegated if it means we win the Conference League, I'd kill to see us win a trophy in my lifetime, JUST ONE"

 

We've completed the full domestic set in my lifetime.

 

In recent years, only a handful of teams have won more silverware than us. 

 

Basically the teams that have bought it. But we've still won the Premier League more recently than Man Utd and Arsenal.

 

And don't even mention Spurs 

 

We've had the most incredible time as Leicester City fans.

 

In 1988, I just wanted to see us compete in the top division.

 

We've done alright, haven't we?

I thought the years under MON were as good as it got, and for quite a few years after I was right  It has been unbelievable since we came back up from L1 under Nigel.

I remember sitting on the coach on the way home from the 97 League Cup Final Replay at Hillsborough, phoning my dad and brother, saying "We've peaked, it won't get any better than this!"

Great Post. Started supporting Leicester when I was a nipper at less than 7 year old. Until I was over 40 we had not won any major honour (64 League Cup aside and a number of top sides did not enter) in that time I can remember your mate's West Ham winning FA Cup in 64, Cup Winners Cup 65, Cup again in 75 and 80. As much as I loved our club I used look at clubs like West Ham and those Brian Clough sides and Ipswich and Sunderland etc and think we ultimate bottlers. O'Neill changed that but then we got really bad Taylor and all that until the drop to League One. The League win and finally The FA Cup has brought a wonderful Indian summer into my supporting life. I still pinch myself on a regular basis we have won so much in the last 30 years compared to the first 30 years of following our club.

my old benchmark for what i wanted us to achieve was swansea or southampton. When i saw them get promoted and manage to flourish in the prem and for swansea win a cup.

 

Amazing to see how much we’ve bettered that. 

 

ironically more like swansea than ever given Brendan! 

 

one thing that always stuck with me was a quote from a wolves player around about 2013 who said he was simply tired of spending every season fighting to stay in the division. I’m so glad that wasn’t all we could do, or aimed for.

I would not swap my club with any other club. EVER.

This year is the 35th anniversary of me going to Filbert Street for the first time and watching us getting outplayed by Hull City.

 

Worth every single moment.

 

In about 1990, we lost 1-0 at home to Port Vale from a first minute goal.

 

Imagine saying to my 10 year old self at the time "It's cool, we'll be champions of England , just stick with us"

I love the way you name-dropped West Ham, Ipswich and Sunderland ... and just referred to the others as "Brian Clough sides".   Excellent!

Ive been following City since the Bloomfield days and can see my thoughts exactly in many of the above comments and the original post is bang on. 

I remeber the leugue 1 season fondly and took my 2 boys to many of the games home and away , but I remember clear as day buying tickets for the Scunthorpe home game to allow my boys the privilege of seeing a trophy lifted. I said to them both take this all in boys because this dont happen very often as a City fan, never in my wildest dreams could I see what was coming after. Together we have seen them win every domestic trophy since (apart from leugue cup) just unbelievable.

A trophy haul that anyone outside the Big 6 would love to have. Oh and one of the Big 6 as well 😆

Really difficult one for me. Us getting good pretty much perfectly aligned to me moving away and not being able to watch us as much.

 

Obviously grateful but there's always a part of me that wishes it happened at a different time.

Not wishing to build up some imaginary rivalry with Spurs, but to think they had that incredible semi final against Ajax and then went on to experience a Champions League final, and still would (probably) swap that for our FA cup win.

Lol similar to me, I moved out permanently after graduation. Just meant I spent more time and money trying to get back for matches, all unbelievably worth it obviously before anyone accuses me of complaining.

Went to Wembley to see Derby beaten in the play offs, watched all three league cup finals on the TV plus the replay, was at every home game of the title winning season and enjoyed the Champions League games, watched the FA cup final on the TV and went to both the Charity/Community shield games so I've definitely had fun times supporting my local team
