Didn’t we all get bored of this turgid formation under Rodgers last season and at the beginning of this one?

Feels like returning to it would doing the same thing that didn’t work all over again. The only remotely good football we’ve played this season was the 4-3-3 with Maddison on the wide right and drifting inside. We seen to have abandoned that to placate Tete of all players now.

Evans if fit or Soyuncu

Faes

Castange

Mendy

Maddison

Barnes

Nacho

You lost any credibility this post might have had by putting Ward in goal. I couldn’t read on after that

.. why Ward!!!

You really should not be encouraging Rodgers to utilise this formation. So long as we are pressed, we cannot get out of our half and we tend to leave the back three exposed as the wing-backs are caught too far forward.

I stopped reading soon as you said ward was back in goal.

I was gonna say exactly this! You messed up at the first hurdle I'm afraid....

Haha Ward! Ffs!

Who in their right mind would want Ward back in the team, Iverson kept us in the game yesterday and if Ward was in goal the score would have been embarrassing.

I can't believe Rodgers is still in charge this morning, I just want him out of my club, at this stage I would take any manager over Rodgers because the parasite lost the fans a while ago and the players appear clueless under him.

Agree with the system with a big BUT. The last time we played the system correctly with some success was under O’Neill, the reason it was successful was he played out and out wingers as wing backs (Guppy and Impey) who got a foot in now and then without getting their shorts dirty but got to the line regularly and whipped balls in with their strong foot! Vardy would be on 15 goals now easy with that service. Can you see this clown playing Barnes right and Tete left? No chance!

3412 with a Gasperini-esque manager who specialises in playing that way would probably be our "best" formation with current personnel assuming everyone was completely match fit.

Iversen

Souttar, Evans, Faes,

Ricardo, Tielemans, Wilf/Mendy, Kristiansen,

Madders,

Iheanacho, Daka

Probably gets our strongest players on the pitch at the same time in a way they're generally played to their strengths. Sad that Barnes misses out but right now I'd say the Daka/Iheanacho link up with Madders playing in his best position behind them looks more promising than having Tete and Barnes as wingers does unless we're somehow going to tap back in to whatever happened at Villa away.

Problem is, Rodgers has absolutely no idea how to coach this. It just doesn't come naturally to him. I don't know that we've EVER really played a 352 properly under him, it always just turns in to a back 5 with unadventurous full backs and if smashing it long to Barnes and Vardy doesn't work we're largely boned. Spartak away and Man City away (the thumping) probably the only exceptions and the latter was largely dependent on JJ's pace.

A switch to 3-4-3 similar to the great escape is where we should go.

                                                                   Iverson

                                   Faes                        Soutar                   Cags/Evans

Ricardo                                Mendy                       Tielemans/Ndidi                         VK

                            Maddison                      Nacho                       Barnes

Just go all out.

It worked during the great escape tbf. Changing to 3-5-2 was a big part of the catalyst of that

Yes it did, though not a winger as such De Laet was lightning quick and strong, can’t think who played left at that time because Riyad played behind strikers. But our fullbacks are that, not wingbacks I feel. Justin maybe can bomb on and Ricardo too I guess. Important thought that the three centre halves and one defensive midfielder should do the bulk of the defending, not the wing backs. Ours start on the 18 yard box whilst most teams who play it right start on the halfway line saying mark me!

Albrighton played at right wing back not De Laet. Schlupp played at left wing back. Remember Albrighton being outstanding during that run and everyone baffled why he hadn’t played all season previously and he’s never been blessed with seering pace (not saying he was slow but wasn’t noticeably quick).
