They are taking lunch when it’s not raining. Marvellous.

Not a sport out there that shoots itself in the foot more consistently than cricket.

This may be true. But this isn't an example of it. They're taking it early while they try to dry out the pitch, so they'll be ready as soon as the pitch is. (If it is...!)

The stupid move here would be to wait till normal lunch time, then potentially sit inside for lunch during the only 40 minutes where play is possible!

Cricket must look absolutely ridiculous to those looking in. Taking teams off before 90 overs are bowled in good weather, not starting early on the good days when you always lose time later, and of course they must have a full lunch.

I bet the draw before the start so they'll probably one over today claiming the remaining 5 wickets.

Me too, but I would be very happy to lose that bet (to an England win)

We have to start to become more flexable with start/finishing times, not having full lunch/tea times etccc.. Or just build a retractable roof and make it an indoor/outdoor game.:)

What's the latest they'll wait til before calling it a draw?

Imagine anytime after 530.

If they can have an hour at it they’ll fancy it.

I live about 15 mins from Old Trafford, small chance of any play at all today it is miserable.

What could've been one of the closest and most entertaining Ashes ruined by how rigid cricket is.

How many of the people making these variously hilarious and/or ridiculous calls for changes to the rules do we think would be saying the same stuff if the positions were reversed in this match?

My money would be on precisely none.

Anything to avoid the reality that England threw this series in the first test. We were always going to lose either Headingley or Old Trafford to the weather. Putting ourselves in a situation where only three consecutive wins will do is on Stokes and McCullum.

Rule changes should be made after this.

Its a joke tbh.

While I wouldn't say it was "always" on the cards, there was always a high possibility of one Test being a near-inevitable draw due to rain and so going 2-0 down was always going to make it a wildly improbable confluence of circumstance that would allow us to win 3-2. Left it out of our hands, and then the hands that aren't ours have taken it, sadly.
