That he asked to come off is bad news

He might just be an intelligent guy... "we're probably going to lose to Newcastle..it's a strain...all science and logic tells me that i'm going to be busy and playing it will make it worse"

Could have done with Rodgers applying the same logic to Vardy so he didn't spend 30 minutes running around in extra time making his injury worse.

Was Ward at fault with any of the goals?

Look at his positioning for all of the 3. 4th one is criminal for a professional goalkeeper.

2nd one, I'll give as he was caught cold. But third and fourth he could and should have done better. But he wasn't the sole issue, he compounded the issue. The real frustration is with the midfield 1 tackle between 2 supposed CDMs is criminal. Hamza not a single tackle won. That's the main issue, but not having a solid keeper means it was made easier. With Mads, it wouldn't be 4-0

Regardless, you should be asking does Ward fill the defence with confidence? Does Ward ever over perform on XG? Is he literally the shittest goalkeeper I’ve ever had to displeasure of watching week after week?

It’s a complete embarrassment that we are in a situation where he could be our goalkeeper again in this league and it will once again result in our relegation.

People keep saying this but none of our back four have ever played with Ward in goal, most weren't even at the club when he was our regular keeper. So how can they have their confidence affected from zero experience.

I'd say it's more the fans perceptions.

That’s a fair point. At the end of the day being professional footballers they’ll see more of ward than we do, but I genuinely don’t believe they’ll feel as comfortable with ward behind them than mads.

They would have trained with both and been far more comfortable with what Mads offers them as the extra defender.  They would all know the difference in the abilities of both keepers.

Exactly . You could tell in the relegation season the defenders had zero confidence in him and it spread through the team

Apologies if missed this. Is Stolarczyk not fit again now? Should deffo come in instead of Ward if fit??

I'd have about 25 players in the squad that I'd prefer to start in goal ahead of Ward

Fantasy Premier League has him injured til 25th Jan. Which is oddly specific. Premierinjuries.com has no return date and physioroom doesn't have him down as one of our listed injuries.  Probably cos he's back in training.

Said it in the D***y W**d thread, Mads gives the team confidence and allows us to take some risks as he's such a good keeper. We can leave a few things to chance. The players lost all confidence the second Ward came on yesterday.

Let's be honest, anyone who has played at a decent level will have been in a game when a sub has come on and you're thinking 'This guy is shit. We're going to struggle with him on the pitch.' I'm sure that's what happened on Saturday. You saw the confidence in the defence just evaporate instantly. Maybe they shouldn't think that way, but it's human nature to lose a bit of belief when arguably your best player gets injured and arguably your worst player replaces him.

I agree, they did look like there confidence dropped off a cliff and even Ward looked like he was bobbing himself when he came on. If confident in that wouldn't have been 4-0 with Mads in goal.

But this was added to a midfield who didn't want to tackle...at all and that leaves you vulnerable as a defender.

Three of them were at the club the year we went down

They train with him everyday, and they each have a pair of eyes, so you'd imagine they've seen for themselves how vastly inferior he is to Mads.

I'd love someone to ask why Ward kept the number 1 shirt. If it's so they don't knock his confidence it's not exactly worked has it?
