foxfanazer Posted 30 April 2024 Posted 30 April 2024 Any potential Man City loanees? Oscar Bobb maybe?

LestaLad Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 I’d take Harwood Bellis with it looking like Southampton won’t be going up. 2

Happy Fox Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 Plenty of free agents as a forward: Welbeck Martial If we offload Daka and Nacho could bring in a player as above. Vardy, Welbeck and Cannon would be decent enough at this level.

I was of a similar mind frame last summer, really wanted us to sign him but not so sure now, both times we played them this season he looked like he absolutely shit the bed, he is talented but given the Man City and young English player tax, I think there is better value to be had with players such as Jacob Greaves or Ronnie Edwards 3

indierich06 Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 We're so obviously going to need to cut our cloth this season, I really hope we go back to trying to find rough diamonds in smaller leagues - it worked well last season with the likes of Hermansen, Fatawu etc. Let's build a young, hungry squad and forget trying any 'marquee' signings. Wage structure needs a total reset too. 4
LVFox Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 I do wonder if the incoming financial rules in 25/26 lead us to roll the dice more this season, take the points hit and try to build a squad more sure to stay up. Whilst the new rules should bridge the gap between top and bottom of PL, I do wonder if it will create a chasm between PL and Championship that we will want to make sure we don't fall the wrong side of.
StriderHiryu Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 This may or may not be useful, it's the top ranked players in the Championship statistically. You have to take such ratings with a grain of salt, but I think there's a large element of truth to the statistical side of these ratings. For example, I didn't realise Gabriel Sara and Jacob Greaves were ranked as highly as they are. Both are very good players, but especially in the case of Sara, I didn't realise he had carried Norwich that much. Some outliers: Sammie Szmodics is ranked 36th, despite having 25 goals (I suppose playing in an awful team will do that to you) Trai Hume of Sunderland is ranked 30th. Has been linked to us in the past. Jamie Vardy is ranked 107th! I suppose touching the ball 3 times a game against the bus parkers will have that effect. Callum O'Hare is ranked 160th. Mads Hermansen is 157th which is surprising given that everyone in the Championship has him as hands down the best keeper. I think if you're looking for value then Whittaker and Chair have great numbers and ratings despite playing for struggling teams. Perry Ng in with a shout too. I think that may be more appropriate given our situation. The players on that list are way out of our price range - Sara for example, signed two years ago for over ten million. leftfield about from me - Bali Mumba from Plymouth. We are good for starting full backs, he would be good to bring in as backup and learn from the likes of Ricardo.

Whoever scores & assists usually get the highest ratings, when they are not necessarily the best performer in that specific match. As you said yourself, I’d take these websites with a grain of salt mate. FBref is a far better go-to despite them not doing match ratings. 1 1

Here is the one for League One: https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/8/Seasons/9623/Stages/22081/PlayerStatistics/England-League-One-2023-2024 Making the step up from League One to Premier League seems like too much of a jump for me. That said, Harrison Burrows of Peterborough has an interesting profile and some crazy stats. (6 goals, 14 assists from left back) Bali Mumba is ranked pretty low down in the Championship ratings, but he's been impressive for Plymouth this season. At just 22 and able to play both sides, he's not the worst shout.
Stadt Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 Average ratings aren't a great barometer really. Tries to incorporate far too much and relies so much on the manager, approach, teammates etc. Agreed on Szmodics though. It's his first good season in the championship at 28 and he's outperformed his xG too. Even Whittaker I'm not totally sold on. Philogene looks as though he has the most potential of the wingers but he'd be too expensive imo.
UniFox21 Posted 1 May 2024 Posted 1 May 2024 Welbeck/Antonio type player to add numbers up top. Barkley/Townsend from Luton (assume they have small deals?) Then a few loanees from City/Chelsea/Liverpool - Hardwood-Bellis/Doyle type player. Wouldn't mind a sniff around a few Villa academy players (such as Hull did with Philogene). We'll see a lot more of these deals with FFP and the pure profit on academy players

Contract up this summer and got a similar profile as Leif Davis had last season. I'd take a chance on him. 1 2
