First team this season to stop us playing our game and force us to play theirs and I include Hull in that, so fair play to them. They also should have had a penalty.

Having said that... GREAT win! We had to change our game plan, fight, get a bit nasty, foul them, slow and disrupt play and grind out the win and that's exactly what we done.

A real gritty, hard working, ground out performance, Oh how I’ve missed that in the last few years!

Really enjoyed and can appreciate that!

Credit to Sunderland, the best team we’ve played, also the dirtiest and ‘master of dark arts’.

Constant shirt grabbing that the short man was oblivious too, awful ref.

Another win and onto the next one!

You can see why Sunderland dicked Southampton, their pressing was very good and would absolutely destroy the BTEC Brendan

And the real Brendan too. That's a game we lose 2 or 3-0 last season. It's hugely refreshing to see us get stuck in when other teams press us. No more folding under the slightest bit of pressure. 👍

A great win, and truth be told we could’ve easily had 4/5. They made it very tough for us and that was the hardest game we’ve had so far this season. Had nowhere near as much time on the ball or control of the ball as we would normally have or like. So for me, a great feeling to churn out a win when not at our best against a team that will be top 6 this season. Casadei was the Casadei we’d all heard about tonight. Ref was a twat. Onto the next.

The perfect summary

We weren't at our best and Sunderland gave it a go, however didn't really create alot and we should have scored a couple of those chances.

On a bad day we probably should have rolled out with about 4 goals.

I still think cov were the best we've played this season. Sunderland probably second.

Indeed, that is true… but we have Enzo and not Brendon anymore let’s look forward now and I see a team that is a unit again for the first time in a while

We had 5-6 clear cut chances, I don't see how we didn't play well. The finishing was horrible at times though.

Can’t say I thought we played well - other than in fleeting spells - but you’re right, could’ve easily scored a few more

Enjoyed that.

They tested us tonight with their pace and tenacity, saying that their keeper was superb.

Very impressed  with Patrick Roberts.

...I bet he felt that he had something to prove coming here!!!

Frustrating for him, to not get the move to come here and I felt that he was just what we needed to play on the right side. He ended up going abroad and I suspect disappointed with the game and it has taken him some time to get back.

Good player, wanted him here but things do not always turn out how you wish, good luck to him.

Sunderland were probably the best side we've played so far, certainly gave the best performance of any opposition side, but the 1-0 scoreline doesn't really tell the whole tale.

For all of their huff and puff and the amount of times I've seen written that they "carved us open" Mads made 1 save of note.

Their keeper has made 3 very good saves, 2 of which hit the woodwork, Casadei should have done better with his chance and we should have at least 1 stone wall penalty. The ref gave nothing all night for their players trying out for the national rugby side. On another day we've won that game by 2 or 3 and everyone would be feeling a little easier about the result

It wasn't pretty at times, Sunderland set up fantastically against us and it was way more nervy than it probably should have been, but a win is a win, 36 points from a possible 39, 8 point cushion now on 2nd place with the pressure on Ipswich to close the gap, pressure that is added to with Leeds got on their heels.

Can't grumble too much

Clearly opted not to try and control possession tonight, or we couldn't do, so are coached to switch and use Casadei's height and go for route one. At times it worked but we were the worst I've seen us on the ball this season.

Casadei had an impressive game, KDH's 1st touch was faultless tonight and Winks got through so much work. Vestergaard's reading of the game was crucial as well.

Mental resilience is relentless and let's regroup and go again Saturday.

BLUE ARMY

It's worth noting that we've only scored 7 of our 27 goals in the first half hour, and conceded 5 of our 7 - so, we haven't really been in many games where we've had to defend leads from such an early point, especially against a team that actually wanted to try and score (compared to stoke for example) - so it's fair to say that we're still getting used to certain match situations.  Personally, though i thought we were really sloppy in possession at times, i thought we dealt with the situation really well - winks and KDH led the team in tackles (5 and 4) respectively,)  a total of 12 players registered at least 1 tackle; 7 players registered at least 1 clearance, and our use of strategic fouling was a masterclass (apart from Faes in the penalty area...)

They threw everything at us and we dealt with it without it ever looking like they'd break us down.

My frustration is that when we play these teams that we expect will attack us, we seem to play nacho - tonight was set up for vardy or daka, as there was acres of space to counter into, which is perhaps why the route 1 option wasn't brilliantly successful.

The way he went round Faes towards the end, he looked like he had something to prove

Never say never. He definitely impressed tonight. I was also impressed by the Sunderland movement speed and tenacity. For a young team they really got stuck in and were good on the ball

and always keen to find space and receive the ball. That said they could

probably do with another good experienced leader/ general. They will definitely be up in the top six if tonight is anything to go by.

Ref's should be made to do a test every month to make sure they do still know the rules

Should've been a pen for the pulling and foul on Fatawu as it carried on into the box, not a free kick from where it started

Yup, thought the same. Fatawu kept running, the defender keeps pulling until Fatawu stumbles well inside the box.

Then again Faes' was a definite pen for them, so evens out in a way.

That was a great win.

Bit worrying how easily they just ran through us though, especially in the second half.

Good little reality check as it’s the first game in 13 that we haven’t controlled from the start.

I thought they were particularly good at moving the ball sharply and quickly through the lines. Bellingham and Ekwah I thought were really good.

Roberts had decent suçcess with his dribbles as well.

As has been said, apart from their finishing they looked well drilled and purposeful with the ball.

Special mention for tonight’s referee. Where do they find these people? Missed two clear penalties for both sides and completely ignored every time their defenders were holding.  Absolutely abysmal.

That’s the problem when you play two wingers who can’t really defend and positionally are still learning when we don’t have the ball and Nacho who seemed to be on another planet tonight.

You leave plenty of gaps with only three working as true midfielders. A gamble which nearly didn’t pay off tonight.

Keith Stroud has been a comedy act in the championship for a long time. When I heard we had the 4ft 2 referee I knew we’d have a performance for the ages.

I think that’s the first game I’ve been told where the ref wanted to be part of it so much, that the scoreline should be reported Leicester 1 Sunderland 0 Keith Stroud 0

Kels and Fatawu were particularly guilty of losing possession. Our normal patience was not really there for long stretches of the game.

It does also feel like we need to exploit our wingers more. They had both fullbacks on toast today but we had little to show for it.

Impressive performance off the ball though and despite a few hairy moments, I thought we defended really well.
