This legal defense is so laughable, apparently being punished for being ambitious and the transfer market was “soft” and not able to get the players true market value

"Everton will say: 'if we decided to stay at Goodison Park and show a lack of ambition with regards to the new stadium, then we wouldn't be up against a charge and be facing this points deduction'.

"So that will form one part of their defence and hey will be asking for their legal briefings and accounting experts to hook together a case on one of those lines."

"I think they will also be seeking further evidence, in relation to their inability to pass players on.

"For example, they signed Cenk Tosun from Turkey for around £27m - it didn't work out for the player. These things sometimes happen. Everton would have said, under normal circumstances, they would have sold him back to a Turkish club - but Turkey was effectively in total closedown (during Covid), and so that market was denied to them.

"So, therefore, the chance of recovering £8m to £12m a year or two later was denied to the club.

"Ultimately, Everton were around £20m over the PSR limit - if you knock off another £12m then we're looking at a much lower figure and, you would think, that would provoke a much lower point deduction. So, this is the direction Everton are likely to follow."

Did a 5 year old write that? 🤣

Beat them and drew last season.

Doesn't really matter what happened between us last season, point is they cheated to gain more points over the season therefore it's only right that we feel aggrieved by it, the fact the BR was in charge and we were turd is a completely different argument. This I feel could open a can of worms, rightly, as Everton cheated and that has directly resulted in us having a loss of revenue due to relegation.

even if rodgers was backed that year he'd only brought in shite players. he was well backed the season after winning the fa cup and we fluked an 8th place finish. we really deserved a 13/14th place finish that season

I actually think it matters. If they gained financial advantages by buying players enabling them to beat us - and that (amongst other issues not of their doing) caused our relegation - then it does matter.

Relegated clubs have applied for compensation

The chair of the commission, David Phillips KC, also referenced applications for financial compensation from current Premier League clubs Burnley and Nottingham Forest and last season's relegated sides, Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton.

Phillips said he was "satisfied that the applicant clubs have potential claims for compensation" - but noted the commission holds no "inherent jurisdiction" and it is instead "the role of the Premier League to bring and prosecute complaints"

My point was that it doesn't only matter what happened between us - it matters what happened over the whole season! (including the games between us)

In reality Chelsea and Man City should be stripped of all their titles but they won't be. It'd be too damaging for the brand.

Happy with this if it is upheld. Still does us no good and unfortunately due to the pathetically poor standard of promoted teams they've managed to probably make it all worth doing.

The irony of it is they've said it didn't give them a sporting advantage in the review. Other than them coming to the conclusion all the players Everton bought were absolutely shit, how on earth can they say it doesn't give them sporting advantage?

We get relegated because of Everton. No, we got relegated because we put our club in the hands of a greedy umpa loompa

It was our own fault. But that doesn't excuse the fact the team one place and 2 points above us broke the rules.

I'm struggling a bit to understand some posts from fellow fans. Let's look at some facts:

- Were we good enough to stay up last season? Debatable. Probably not.

- Why we weren't good enough? 3 main reasons. Firstly, BR "tactics". Secondly, inability of the board to make crucial decisions on time. Thirdly and as important, we had to stay strictly within these ridiculous FFP rules while the board/ownership knew that other teams were breaking these rules heavily.

According to some of our fans we need to keep being the Mother Theresa of English football. We also need to support Everton and stay away from any class lawsuit because next to our training centre we have a state-of-the-art field full of money trees.

It's ridiculous that, should they get relegated (big if), the club that benefits was in now way affected by the breach, unless it's Burnley who would have stayed up in 2021/22 had Everton been relegated that season.

Considering our last four financial statements show a combined loss of approximately £210m, are we not standing in our glass house throwing stones? How long before other clubs start pointing the finger at us?

That's £50m a year, well within the limit.

Easy win for the Premier Leauge.

They can do this to Everton because it doesn't have an effect on the way the outside world perceives them, most fans of brand Premier League will associate Everton with relegation battles.

If they did it to Man City and Chelsea, and those clubs then had to adjust accordingly, leading to them selling players and assets, it would go down horrifically with worldwide Prem fans.

If they lose the appeal would the points deduction stay at 10?

If Man City are found guilty they will be relegated in a way similar to Juventus.

I hope anyway.

In civil and criminal courts, awards and penalties can be adjusted up or down. Not sure with the FA.

They were awful. I take the point about players X and Y.

So do Leeds also feel this way too? And Southampton?

How can they when they would jave still gone down and we'd have stayed up?or are we talking the butterfly effect and taking Into account their specific results against Everton?
