Shane Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Don’t mind signing a goalscoring midfielder but we also need a destroyer in midfield.

It would be a signing that confirms what we already strongly suspect. We've learnt nothing. The alarm bells are ringing because he wants a new challenge and project. Surely that means Europe, maybe joining Celtic or Rangers. If he joins us it will be purely because we've offered generous terms not because he is remotely interested in another slog in the championship. The only way I'd accept this is if Marti is going to really go hard playing youth, we clear out loads of ageing dross (haha!) and we see Brownhill as short term goals and experience whilst academy players grow into their roles. If we were having a drastic squad overhaul I would back the signing. You've worded it better than me - it's the pattern of behaviour rather than the player itself. I did think similarly with Coady and Winks at the time. Coady more so because he had just been shunned by basically the 16th and 17th best PL teams which was a big red flag. Winks in fairness I saw a bit more logic and you could have argued it was a real coup. I'm amazed at quite how badly Winks has dipped. He finished badly in 2023/24 and he was an absolute shambles last season. Brownhill definitely aids our team and for that reason it's hard to argue against the signing but it's not really that black and white for me anymore. I'd have backed it more two years ago than I do now. 2
slymunn Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 If we are moving a couple of players out to get Brownhill in, it makes sense. Smaller player squad, lower wage bill overall and a goalscoring midfielder that we need. He's also younger than Coady by a good couple of years.

Tomo260 Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Not against this if we actually learn from Costly Coady and offer JB a sensible wage.
mozartfox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Before going to the garden Centre to by some new trees, Fluffkin has to first fell a 4-5 Dutch Elm ridden trees from the current squad. Adding average replacements as opposed to say bringing in 1 or 2 potential gems, is possible only going to add problems, IF that is we get promoted. Personally I would pass on this one. Do our Retirement Team actually ever look beyond English Teams??? WTF do they they do when the window is closed????
scinnell Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 (edited) No problem with the rumoured terms offered to get a player of his quality in our midfield. He offers so much that our team currently lacks at this level. He does the job for a few seasons, worst case scenario leaves on a free when he is 33 years old and we get a player in his prime years. If we get rid of Coady, Faes/Vesterguard, Soumare, Ndidi etc.. who I'd imagine have similar wages, I would not mind spending some of the savings on a good player in a position we lack. StonyFox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 He did score 18 last season, but that was over half of his career league goals (31 in total). But saying that, I'm not against this if he can bring 10 goals from midfield this season. If we stick to a 3 year deal, then he'll be turning 32 in the final year of his contract, which isn't that bad compared to some of our deals recently!
Tuna Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Offer him 3 years a day we get him, I get the Coady comparisons but Brownhill is quality at this level. 1
CrazyKopCorner Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 (edited) My lad says he'd be a great signing and he's never wrong including saying Coady would be crap in a back 4 Edited 31 July 2025 by CrazyKopCorner
Mickyblueeyes Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Brown hill for any championship side would be more than decent. Brownhill on. 4 year contract at some ridiculous wage with a guaranteed increase immediately if promoted would be stupidity. 2
RowlattsFox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Red flags this one for me, after one particularly good goal-scoring team. No-one in the Premier League willing to get him on a free speaks wonders too. That said, he definitely improves a key area of the pitch. 1
Tielemans63 Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 1 hour ago, Dan said: Before I say all of this I'll caveat by saying he's clearly pretty good and plugs what is a big gap in our team currently in that virtually none of the midfielders ever score. Winks, Skipp, Ndidi and Soumare have a combined 20 career goals. Brownhill got 18 last season alone and was a big part in Burnley's promotion. But I am scared. It's all very short-term thinking again. The Winks and Coady signings to me were both failures in the end - we paid a Premier League level fee and gave them both Premier League level contracts. Both of them therefore should be held to a standard of being above the Championship and both of them totally flunked it last season for us. Brownhill I fear is very similar. 29 years old and never really made much of an impact at PL level. He would be leaving a club who have just gone up to the Premier League and coming here - the only reason would be similar to why Coady came here instead of to Luton, Sheffield United etc.. - we would be paying over the odds. I can see it happening and I can see him being good for us in the Championship, but beyond that is my fear. If we were to pay him a PL level contract, we should be demanding a PL level output and nobody can seriously argue against this. My thoughts entirely. My preference would be to offer him a 2 year deal, but that's not going to happen is it?!
jonthefox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 All for it, but like others have said, it depends on the contract
Scotch Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Not only do I think he's a good player at this level but I think he fits the system Marti plays extremely well. He's also a captain so I would assume has some sort of leadership. Ndidi and soumare being replaced with this lad would definitely improve us on the pitch, I just hope we don't risk stability off the pitch to get it, and we all know that, that is a very real possibility.
davieG Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Joe Donnohue @JoeDonnohue Excl: Josh Brownhill offered long-term deal by #LCFC after leaving Burnley on free. Scored 18 last season & wants new challenge. Player targeting PL & admires #LUFC project, but not clear if reciprocated by club. Ex-Clarets skipper open to move abroad.
davieG Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Clubs such as West Ham United, Celtic and Ipswich Town have all been linked with Brownhill this summer, but the Foxes now look to be the first outfit to make a concrete move. According to FourFourTwo, Leicester City have offered the 29-year-old a lengthy contract proposal. Backed as one of the favourites to fight for the Championship title, Cifuentes and Co. have targeted Brownhill as someone who would raise the quality of their current crop. Last year saw the outgoing Burnley captain enjoy his best season to date, netting 18 times and providing six assists in 42 Championship appearances. Josh Brownhill's Burnley goal record in seasons, as per Fotmob Season League Appearances League Goals 2019/20 10 0 2020/21 33 1 2021/22 35 2 2022/23 41 7 2023/24 33 4 2024/25 42 18 Total 194 35 One good season? 1

Admiring LUFC project is such a grandiose way of saying you would rather get paid more in the PL than the EFL. 1
