He's got two settings.

The first is a slow, lackadaisical approach where he jogs about and doesn't impact the play.

The other is when he's charging about the pitch using his pace and strength to get after the ball and make things happen.

When he's in the first mode he's a liability but when he's on it I don't see any Premier League midfielder coping with his physicality. He's got the ability to walk all over other sides.

I think the best we can hope for is that these improved performances lead to a sale elsewhere and we get a fee.  He has never seemed happy here,  his contract is ending in '25 I believe and I don't think he'll sign another one.   Also, I think people might be getting a little carried away.  He is starting from a very low base (previous performances) and although he is certainly improved, I think that the hope of him becoming the player we wanted might be leading people to see a little more than is there.

Also, having finally learning how to sprint, don't you find it all the more maddening that he couldn't (wouldn't) do that before?

His big problem now is to maintain this level of consistency. He needs to continue putting 8/10 performances regularly. However, it works both ways, if his performance drops off one week, then no doubt he'll get the old abuse, which is the last thing he needs. No player plays really well week in week out, but if the majority of his performances are like yesterday, I'll be extremely pleased and it will feel like we've made a new signing.

8/10 is pushing it, he hasn't been that good.

It's the once or twice (at least) times per game when he loses his man and plods snail pace back. Even when he plays well going forward and has put in some good tackles, strung some decent passes together, there is still times when he seems to think, nope I can't be arsed this time. It's frustrating because I think there is a good player there somewhere let down by his attitude.

Pleased for him. Much as I never like to go all armchair psychologist/body language expert, his reaction to the equaliser doesn't seem like that of a player who isn't arsed and doesn't want to be here. Of course it will take a lot more decent performances to win people round but it's a start. I think with him we probably just have to accept that there will always be those inexplicable moments where he seems to forget he's participating in a football match and hope they're outweighed by the moments he turns into part Vieira part Zidane.

Agree, he is not perfect, but he now seems to be trying and becoming mildly more consistent. Long may it continue, but if you look for the mistakes or perceived shortcomings, chances are you will find them. Just thankful we are seeing the start (?) of the player we hoped we had signed. And yes, he looked on board Project Ruud after the equaliser!

Would personally love to see him barrel through a defence, knocking defenders down like skittles followed by a nonchalant tap in. lol

Does he strike a ball well?

Can't recall ever seeing him shoot lol

he has hit a few that have been blocked but he has decent technique so sure he will catch one right sooner rather than later.

What a turnaround from him. When he wants to be he's like a bulldozer running at the opposition, just he when he won that free kick. When Ndidi went off, it's almost like he wanted to take control of the midfield and certainly made his presence known. Strong powerful player when he's on it.

I'm really starting to like him. His confidence must be sky high compared to the boos he got when he came on (which I have never agreed with)

I think this point absolutely nails it. there was a small insignificant moment, that identified that for me. He played a ball and there was a return pass that another player was coming onto, in the past he would have let the ball go to them and they probably would have got in each others way and we get countered on and probably concede knowing us.

But this time, he demanded that the pass back was for him, he took the ball and spread it to the wing and the attack kept going.

I just thought to myself in the moment, that it was the first time I’ve seen him want to take control and not just be passive to what’s going on around him.

Similarly, I noticed the same from Bilal. in the west ham game a few moments when it looked as if facundo was going to take the ball from him but he basically took control of the moment and said …. I’m part of this now, get out the way. not in a negative way but under cooper he obviously didn’t feel like it was his place to demand the ball and make plays himself, but already ruud has got these guys being accountable.

He hit the bar from about 25 yds when we played one of our European games some seasons back....could have been Bruges or Moscow.
