Best we could hope for here would be a loan with The Arse subsidising a big chunk of his wages. Even then they'll probably insist on an obligation-to-buy clause which I think we'd have a hard time agreeing to.

Why can’t we negotiate a deal so that Arsenal pays 50% of his wages for a loan deal. Surely this would benefit everyone concern. The player get a shop window, Arsenal stand to gain, if he does well and we can get a player which meets our needs!

Because Arsenal can afford to wait, see who gets desperate later in the window and is willing to cover a greater portion of his wages I assume.

I can see something like that happening. Arsenal won’t be worried about us so they might be happy to increase our odds of taking points off of their rivals.

 

Out history however has spooked big clubs so they might not take that gamble

I think this could happen, Arsenal need to move squad players on, it maybe later in the window as both sides become more desperate.

Good decision to move on from this. Arsenal have always overpriced their players, only now that they are successful are teams willing to pay the price for their cast offs.

Was always sceptical about this purely because even though he's a cast-off from Arsenal, they'd still somehow try to spin that he's a world-beater and overcharge us! Unfortunately, it just doesn't work like that...if he's surplus to requirement, the fee and wages should be reflective of that!

And this is another problem with focusing on players with PL experience. They are either on big wages and/or cost a lot in transfer fees. There are occasions you can pick up a player trying to rebuild their career but we've found in the past it's terrible value for money and no more successful than recruiting from the lower leagues and abroad.

 

If our answer is we go from Nelson to Ayew because we can't afford the £15m + £100k a week wages then again we're being so blinkered.
