I want Cooper out and this is no defence of him but I really have no interest in what the xg is for us in games.  It’s a very spursy stat. I’ll watch our games and judge it on how I see it not what our xg is or the opposition we are playing. We we’re very lucky to beat Bournemouth. Second half they could of been 4 or 5 - 1 up. I don’t need xg to tell me if we’re playing well or shit.

That's fair enough. I tend to use xG as a way to validate how I think a game has gone/is going, along with shots/shots on target.

You don't have to judge games based solely on stats—they're an option to enrich and inform, not replace the eye test.

Played every league game -

Hermansen

Faes

Justin

Kristiansen

Ndidi

Mavididi

Fatawu

Ayew

Vardy

It would be a non international player

If a Leicester player is at the NFL, they’ll post on socials.

So that’s basically leaves Justin, Mavididi and Vardy.

Surely non of them are spending downtime watching NFL!

So … is this BS? lol

It’s not BS and it adds up with some of the things we are all seeing and hearing.

this doesnt shock me at all, team has shown enough at times theyve got the quality, feels like the manager is holding them back

can understand why they say all the players think we understand football more than him, cos his game management is awful etc

next 3 games will be the acid test id say, Southampton(a), forest(H) and Ipswich(a), think bare min. points would be 4 to say the least, but the way we've been battered in games, just trying to hang on, id be very surprise, suspect will more like be 1 point

when you look at the whole, stats-we are getting hammered, performances-so so, hanging on with no attacking threat, results-id say on a par with what we expected, but in all honesty it could have been more

but that cant gloss over the fact if teams finished their chances we'd have lost, spurs, fulham, everton, arsenal, bournemouth(50/50 on that cos we could have been 2 up from the first half)even Walsall

id like cooper to prove many of us wrong, but its hard to see him doing that at this stage, because hes not learnt a single thing whats so ever from his timeout the game

also how he plays Ayew is beyond me still

And yet 24 of those 96 teams have either equal or less points than us. What's going on? How can this possibly be happening?! This other-worldly phenomenon of teams' results not conforming with their xG stats needs to be investigated as a matter of urgency. Maybe we should try to persuade David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to reunite for a new TV series called The xG Files...

Maybe at moment results are somewhat going our way,  but in the long run teams with bad stats like ours usually end up relegated by the end of the season.

I usually don't either but at this stage of the season it is an important metric. We simply cannot afford to carry on creating so little and conceding so many shots, if we do we will be relegated, unless we have the combined luck of Notts Forest in 2022/23 and Ipswich last season.

If we're at the end of the season and need a point to stay up at Bournemouth or whatever then yeah xG isn't the stat we're looking at, just get the job done. But right now it's an indication that we're collecting more points than we probably should be, and that's very worrying.

One positive I’d say about Cooper is that he seems to be really lucky.

The season that he kept Notts Forest up they seemed to get battered

every week but sneak a result somehow. I wonder what their Xg was.

I hate hearing "lucky" in football. Anything over the course of 30+ games is not "luck".

Getting them to the league cup semi final might be lucky but when you need the consistency over a league season.

Wait until Potter is our manager. XG will be so high and we still won't be winning. Wonder what stats will be posted then.

Possibly, but the evidence shows that teams can indeed outperform or underperform their xG stats over the course of a season, which indicates that individual teams' efficiency at both ends of the pitch (which x stats don't capture) must also play an important part. @The Doctor and @CosbehFox have argued above that mean reversion does kick in over the longer term (eg, over a couple of seasons) and they might be right - I'd be very interested to see more evidence for that.

Anyway, I feel we've tested to destruction the xG debate :D My opinion of Cooper is that he's tactically very limited and I struggle to see him with us long term. However, I don't think the club will sack him unless we're dragged into the relegation zone. That might happen, but I can also see us staying out of it, which would prolong Cooper's time with us. Then the club would have a big decision to make next summer.

159 pages of COOPER OUT, 15 weeks into his tenure. That's objectively incredible!

I imagine we'll double that number if he loses to Brussel Martin and I'll be a major contributor to it :D

Someone said earlier in the thread that one of the players - I don’t want to give anything away, so let’s call him Mames Mustin - was at the NFL game.

Potter had Neal Maupay up front, didn't he?

No team matches their xG playing Neal Maupay, he's too busy thinking up his next shit meme to bother aiming.

true, he had similar levels of under performance vs xG at Chelsea with the likes of Aubameyang, Felix, Havertz and you can start to ask is it he had bad strikers, is it a degree of not being good at coaching finishing?

Tbf you can get a high xG through volume. Quantity and quality will both influence the output. You'd want another metric that looked at the average xG per chance or whatever. It's possible his system created a lot of shots but not from ideal goal scoring positions.

… who Cooper is actively picking ahead of Ricardo, when the story says the player thinks he should play more?

God I hate the international break

So if Rudders is just a scapegoat, who am I supposed to hate now?

Rudders is still out of his depth, but it's easy to like someone when they're signing you up to to undeserved contracts that make you a millionaire many times over :D

Much like the players adored Rodgers for getting Rudkin to sign those deals.
