It's still pure greed which ever way you want to look at it. Their choice of course but fans respect players that actually want to play football and have a good career more than mercenaries. I also understand that not many players give a fck what fans think and again it's his choice, but it is sheer greed and nothing else

I’m not sure if you can fully put this on the player.

If Villa didn’t want to sell, they could have said no - but they were never going to.

A pile of cash towards PSR and from a club that is not a direct rival.

So once the club has accepted the bid, does the player really have the agency to turn the transfer down (assuming there are no other matching bids) - or is the reality that Villa make it quite clear this transfer is good for the club and therefore it’s good for you?

Probably will but columbia arent exactly the main elite of international football. You could play league one and get a call up.

Can always count on you to raise a smile on here. You're just trolling us now surely.

Its amazing though how many footballers will earn all these millions of dollars some still end getting bankrupt in years to come. Gazza's financial advisor must have been his local pub landlord.

I think some people seem to forget that players might just have other priorities.

We always love to talk about Assou-Ekotto and how he didn't really like football, he was skint good at it. For him, moving to Saudi and earning a tonne of money would've been ideal.

Some people just want to maximise their bank balance, and tbh that's okay? The majority want to win something but if Duran spent his entire career at Villa what would he realistically win? Maybe the Europa or a cup under Emery. He might have got a big move but who knows. Form tailing off, injuries can happen at any time.

Essentially he's being offered the chance to earn £20m a year tax free for 3-5 years, there's no way his place in the Colombia team is at risk as one of their biggest stars, and he could saunter back into a Villa-level team in five years and he'd only be 26.

The clubs are quite happy to take the transfer money and I'm sure are keen to convince them to go. I doubt Duran was desperate to play for Aston Villa or West Ham growing up but probably went there for the money as much as anything.

If they want to go to Saudi, it is fine.

Gazza was one of the first players to have an agent. He had two (one a relation of mine) - and whilst he was with those guys he did very well - his problems came when he made the call to keep moving elsewhere for his advice.

There could be an element of that I suppose but players do get to choose ultimately. I suppose with him often being used as sub behind Watkins, this could also have swayed his decision.

I certainly agree it is sad that players care more about money than a career. And you are fully correct they already earn huge amounts for the average person to compare.

However I have slightly a differing perspective. Possibly because my wife is from a similar country to Jhon Duran. When people can come from these countries they truly can have nothing, and I mean not even a mattress in a room. Overnight Jhon can take his family out of any possibly poverty, and move everyone into a decent home and safer area. Football is so important to all of us posting and reading these forums. However for others it is a job, his profession, he just happens to be very talented at a sport. This money can change his whole families life.

Worst case he goes for 2-3 years and comes back at the age of 25 with millions in the bank.

100k in England is 50 after tax. Of course more than my annual wage in a week. But he has chance to x5 his salary and provide for generations annd generations of his family and friends. Incredibly difficult to turn down and I can easily see why he would move.

my only query on this would be why can’t we take advantage of the money on offer in Saudi and sell Faes, Daka, Vestegaard etc.

Faes, Vestergaard, Daka and Ward all for a combined £200m. The Saudis don't realise what they are missing out on 🤣

Yep - being paid good money for a career is one thing, but being paid ridiculous/stoopid money for anything is something else.

Probably because they are shit. The only person in the world stupid enough to sign these players is our own Jon Rudkin.

Hinshelwood is having an absolute shocker as the anchor in midfield.

As soon as you go 1 down against forest you are in trouble, they can't chase a game but they will exploit you if you do what brighton are doing and playing kamikaze football
