Villa need to be careful because I can’t see how they can sustain their current squad outgoings if they don’t have income from European football. They’re currently 10th.

An all to well familiar gamble of a mid table side. They’re on a slippery slope - and we know how hard it is to sustain. You cannot afford for recruitment to not pay dividends on the pitch.

This is the problem any club like them, us a few season ago and now forest (likely) will find themselves in chasing Europe. They will struggle with Europe and epl games and slide down the table. The possibility for PSR issues may arise if they aren't smart with their £.

Not a lot of noise coming out Southampton when you consider how shit they've been. No real outrage from supporters, I guess when you're that shit it's just acceptance.

Careful what you say, they visit the KP soon - we’re no better sadly.

Did the predictor thing after last night's results and this is what it spat out.

Don't know how I managed to get Bournemouth finishing in the extended CL spot and Chelsea 7th but there we are.

Had our relegation confirmed by Wolves beating us.

Nice collective record lads.

Not a great advert for the league if the record is broken by the 3 promoted teams 2 seasons on the bounce, particularly considering how us and Southampton had been in the league for years before hand.

I could be wrong but I don't think the 3 promoted teams have gone straight back down in consecutive seasons ever.

Villa definitely aren't being smart with their money lol

They're giving themselves virtually no wiggle room, unless they've got a shady deal with Saudi to bail them out everytime they're struggling.

yes i believe that stat is more damning on the league & it's future than the 6 clubs involved

I saw an article a few months ago (maybe the Athletic?) ranking all PL winners. Basically the most recent winners were top and great teams like Man United 99 and Arsenal 98 were near the bottom, because they looked at points, GF etc, and teams in the 90s were winning the league with 78 ish and going down with 40.

The league is so stretched now, and quite uncompetitive. Most sports seem to be striving for some kind of parity but we'rte going in the opposite direction.

Wolves should be punished for being even remotely close to the absolute dross in the bottom three.

I agree, but beyond our strongest XI we have a squad full of dross that you don't want to see starting games.

It's piss poor recruiting and squad management from the owners and sporting director. But then again I don't need to tell you guys what that looks like.

At least your starting XI is mildly competent, we have dross and very bad dross and GET OUT type of players.

The tweet asks how to fix the problem with promoted sides all being relegated twice in a row. I think it’s quite easy.

Sheff United, Burnley, Leicester and Saints have all massively contributed to their demise. Each have failed to prepare in advance of the season. Stubbornly consisted with ineffective management strategy and disrespected the quality of the league and those who have gone before them. It’s only Luton and Ipswich who can use the we tried and were simply not good enough line. The others have made diabolical decisions.

This gap gets closed when teams actually prepare for the season ahead. Respect the quality of opposition and adapt to their surroundings. Forest did. We Bournemouth did. Fulham did. Brentford did.

There was an interesting bit on the Guardian Football Weekly on Monday (maybe where the tweet comes from but with a more sensationalist slant) that since the division went down to 20 teams, on average the cumulative total of the teams that have gone up is seven points less every year.

The gap continues to get bigger. People cite that three teams stayed up three years ago but there will be a few outliers and one of those was Forest with the lowest points total to stay up ever.

The gap was getting bigger in our favour for a long time. It’s inexcusable we got relegated after finishing 8th the year before.

Villa in 9th would cause a massive headache with them and the amount of players theyve brought in
