A good manager can see hard work can’t hide a poor footballer and will get rid of both as soon as they can. Daka will leave at the end of this season and Skipp will find a home in League One (maybe with us.)

Cant wait until we go down next season and people start raving about him because he has a couple of good games in League One.

‘He’ll be ok for the Championship’

I saw that so many times on here, you don’t spend 20 odd million for him to be ok for the Championship, especially when he isn’t!!

Not disagreeing with that. But good managers find ways to work with what they've got.

There's sufficient evidence from both players that with the correct defined role and when playing without their confidence completely destroyed, they can contribute. For now.

I don’t think he was awful but I hate players that always look knackered.

Kristiansen & Skipp have the ability to look like they’ve just ran a marathon 15 minutes in.

Chris Waddle was the king on that front looked  knackered in the warm.up.Great player though

The net spend was what 50M  Inc 15M on Abdul .It was never going to be enough we spent far less then both Ipswich and Southampton.

It was about £55m - we had a better squad than Ipswich and Southampton.

The issue is we bought absolute shit for a lot of money - Sunderland far outspent us but who would you rather have, Xhaka for £15m ish or Skipp for £25m?

We never ride our winners again, we make a successful transfer and never look to tap into the same markets again - we revert to buying shit domestically

The only thing in his favour is he had a couple more touches than Soumare and a couple more tackles, that’s how bad it is!

Matt Piper who I think.we all agree knows more about football then any of us was full of praise about Skipp tonight

Would be interesting see if his stats back this up. For me a passenger with almost no influence on the game. Disagree that he had more touches on the ball than Soumare. He barely touched it - Boro absolutely dominated us and in part it was because our number 10 was having to do so much dirty work to cover back. James and Winks had to do all the heavy lifting. I often agree with Pipes but on this occasion I don’t see it. On Saturday I’d move James backwards and put Ayew or BDCR in the 10 role.

He was much better last night which obviously isnt hard from his previous levels. The thing that really annoys me about him is that he should be demanding the ball in midfield like Winks does but instead he shys away. I think if he grew a pair of bollucks he’d be a useful player alongside Winks for playing through the midfield. At the moment hes just a spare part and barely touches the ball during the game

He's just not what we need, and never needed in midfield. Not sure he did an awful lot wrong last night, but didn't really do anything either.

We need someone who can run with the ball alongside Winks, Soumare should be that person who can be physical, drive forward, box to box but he's proven to be incapable.

Well, I thought, a bit like Daka, that was steady today. Green shoots of confidence.

Instead of playing that horrific sitting role, he and JJ played in advance of Winks just sitting. And it suited him better.

I know we scored after he'd gone off - but that was as much to do with Norwich capitulating as anything else. he can be pleased with his input

The game changed after Skipp was subbed off and James moved into his position. James is a much better footballer than him and that’s reflected in how differently they play the 6 role. James is a creative player who hunts for the ball and is strong defensively and offensively. Skipp is disciplined defensively but offers minimal creativity. Playing James deeper also means we are way more creative as we then also have Reid on in the 10 role.

That being said it was definitely Skippy’s best game for us since Palace away last season. However, he was also still comfortably the worst midfielder out of him, Winks, James and Reid.

Largely agree. Just felt his position was 10 yards further up the pitch than normal and it suited him better. A position he played v Villa and Palace last season with as you rightly say, reasonable effectiveness.

This holding role isn't his thing.
