Some forget the lad is still only 16 years old a Kid playing alongside men some nearly twice his age some that only can dream of his skill set the opposition defenders virtually have to kick him off the ball to stop him taking the Pi55 out of them, the lads gone from under 18’s& 21’s to a professional contract playing alongside and against seasons pro’s and noisy stadiums Monga is going to be a special player in the future who will demand a huge transfer fee from a Top club in a couple of years time but let’s hope the lad does some great and amazing things for us before we have to sell the lad for a large bit of cash !

Hear hear.👍🏾

People forget hes probably only playing because other experienced options available  to us are fecking sh1t.

Do not care how young he is. Do not care how good he is. We need more from him. His nonchalant attitude needs changing, head in his shoulders for most of the game. Just always looks like he really can’t be arsed, especially when he’s had his card marked early doors.

Christ on a bike. No wonder Marti is taking the easy option out in his selections.

He’s playing because he’s our only fit left winger in the first team squad.

I don’t think he was that bad , I just think he was hardly in the game as the ball kept going to Fats .

Agreed on this, especially first half. It really is get the ball to Fatawu and hope.

Ricardo was the inverted fullback, so LT had to play deep. I only saw him go on the overlap on Monga once as a result.

We need the overlap on both wings a bit more often, otherwise Monga and Fatawu just get marked to oblivion.

Have been a little disappointed that he hasn't imposed himself more in the last couple of games but it's completely understandable. As others have said, the play always goes to the other wing so he's getting much less of a chance to do something with the ball.

But it's more that his teammates don't feed him the ball when they have the chance, or give it to him too late. Great example just before he was hooked when Winks surged forward right into him basically. Should have given it to Monga and then run past him, either for the return or to open up the space for somebody who is far superior with the ball at his feet.

Starting in a senior game is completely different proposition to coming on and attacking tired legs. When Mavi is fit he will quickly become starter again. But saying that, Monga is getting great learning from this and whilst he was poor today, i dont think he equited himself badly. Was just a tough game for him.

He is now past that stage where teams have no idea what to expect from him. He was doubled up very quickly, but even so he was still a nuisance.  A poor shot in the first half and i remember him getting bullied off the ball a few times. Its going to happen. I dont mind that he's shy - he's 16. We still havent seen the best of him.

The thing is, I expect him to make mistakes and get things wrong at his age.  My hope is that he's a fast learner and mistakes and wrong decisions become less and less.

Little things like not making the run to the far post for a Fatawu cross, when that was the likely thing to happen.  Things like for their goal, Carranza gets dispossessed because Monga wasn't available for a pass because he was stood stationary about a yard away from the ball.

I have confidence he'll make a top footballer, just bear with him whilst he gains experience.

Just to put into context for this young man.

My daughter is 17 and cant be arsed to put her dishes away in the dishwasher and walking back from the bus stop is like mastering Mount Everest!

I think Abdul on the other wing was worse. The way we set up means that if you find yourself as a winger you're going to have a really safe game or pull of some absolute worldy skill to influence the game. Fatawu, like always tried to make things happen and none of it came off last night.

Monga a little more reserved but he seems to have a good head to know when to go for it and when to play safe - Abdul doesn't have this at all!

Marti needs to get someone like Aluko in to support Monga and perhaps get Ricardo more focused on supporting Fatawu on the wing. This means having very disciplined CBs (which we don't have) and having a defensively minded DM ( the thought of Skipp, Choudhury or Soumare make my skin crawl) but one is needed to play to allow the fullbacks to support the wingers.

Mine can't switch the kettle on.

I find it extraordinary that Monga gets himself to training, never mind plays football in front of 30,000 people, goes on planes to play abroad for his national team etc.

Innit👍🏾

Poor lad gets criticised for an indifferent game when most of his experienced teamates were w@nk as well.

The bar is set high with him which is why he's likely to get more criticism than other players who we expect little from anyway.

I also think we need to realise that the likes of him and Abdul are going to get doubled up against and therefore are always going to struggle to stand out.

I was probably more disappointed at Fatawu. A split second of magic can often disguise an overall poor performance.

Can't keep relying on the odd 30 yard screamer.

He is making an enormous leap in his development and there will be indifferent days.  All part of the education.  All part of the journey to becoming the special player that we expect he will be and we need to expect this and be patient.

Bang on.

Monga seemed not at the races from minute one, summed up by that shot towards the end of the 1st half where he just waan't switched on to focus and pick his spot.

We'll have games like this from him, and to be honest he's going through a quiet period the more minutes he plays, progression is not always visibly linear. The match winning moments will come.

Disagree on Fats, yes he will always be a show pony to some degree, until he grows out of it (or hopefully not lol ) but the decision to go the goal line and cross for Ramsey ‘s goal was pleasing.

Agree on Monga, he is young and this type of performance are part and parcel of development. The art is managing such players minutes for both physical and mental  development I would imagine.

It might help if we ever gave him the ball in a 1 on 1 situation

Not sure we can control how many players the opposition put on him  :)

So do we agree he’s not a starter….yet!

Due to Mavididi’s injury he’s forced to play last night & when on the ball he looks ok but he really needs to work on his movement but then I’m a realist and know it’s going to take time and therefore understand he’s an impact player…for now!

The constant push for getting 16/17yr olds into the starting 11 is delusional we don’t have a single under 19, could push it to 20yr old that is ready to start week in week out, those that think we do pull a name out from that development Charlton match midweek, without saying well can’t be any worse than ‘x’.

These guys need time to grow, let them grow as 4 games like Monga had on the trot will do more harm than good yet 4 x 15-20minute cameos where he comes on and runs rings around tiring defences will push his chest out no end & we’ll end up with a better player.

Same goes for any of the names people will throw out, Evans, Aluko, Page and even Hutchinson who’s being thrust into match day conversations now of those including Monga, Aluko would be my pick for adapting quickest for becoming a starter & he’s no where near the match day squad let alone a cameo yet.

You have to look all the way back to Rooney to get a sense of what’s required to make it at that age and I don’t see a Rooney in our academy just let them grow they have loads of time to become a Rooney.
