its been said many times, but look at A, how few ties you needed to win to win thr European Cup in the 70s and B, the fact Forest didnt play any of the proper European elite (except liverpool 1st round) to win either cup run.  The achievememt is barely as hard as winning the FA Cup and certainly  not even in the same stratosphere as winning the current Premier League....

This discussion always comes up when we play Forest. The real answer is not that difficult. Forest and Derby maintain their big rival is with each other. It’s an important part of their identity. Maybe it reminds them of past glories (1970s) when, briefly, they were important clubs in terms of the shake up for honours.

For Leicester it is much more nuanced and depends what part of the county people live in. A saw a fan survey a few years ago and Leicester fans voted Forest their biggest rivals - but it was something like Forest 48%, Coventry 30% and Derby 22% (give a few percentage points either way). The important point to note was Forest came out as the biggest rivals, but less than half the fan base actually felt that way. I don’t know the numbers now, but I would imagine it would be similar. Perhaps more for Forest now we are both in the same division.

One thing is for sure and I mean this seriously. The desperation of Leicester fans to be Forest’s main rivals is significantly less than the desperation of Forest fans to tell us that we’re not. As I say the rival thing is a much more important thing in a Forest fan’s identity. It’s rarely discussed here and generally only comes up when a Forest fan visits our board and raises it

I am from the Dallas area, so I lifelong Cowboys fan. We gave been fairly hated around the US for 80 or so years.

Our biggest rivals are DC, New York, and Philly. We play them twice a year.

My biggest never-understand-it about English football isn't who our rivals are, but how we see the rivalry.

In Leicester, we see Forest, Coventry, and Derby - but fans are happiest when we don't play them! They laugh when they get the drop, and moan if they get promoted.

Ideally, you meet your "rival" once every 2-3 years in a Cup, beating their weakened nearly semi-pro side!

I know the ugly history of violence plays a role, and hopefully dying out - but I actually want all our rivals in the Premier League (with us, of course) so we can play them regularly.

I know slightly off topic, but thus endeth the rant.

They haven't won anything of note in about 50 years, imagine that. Feel sorry for them!

We have watched us lift the PL, FA cup, being in europe when 50%+ of their fanbase haven't seen anything close to these achievements.

Must be tough being so inferior to us and it really rattles them

It'll be interesting to see which way the ref goes in this one, seeing as both sets of fans are convinced there's a conspiracy against them.

It’s when you play the big 6 you need to worry if Pawson is reffing. He will be equally as shit for both of us tomorrow.

Exactly, absolutely laughable non-achievement. Would be embarrassed if our fans were still gassing that up.

Even us finishing 5th two years running in today's PL is of greater sporting merit.

Grasshoppers, Köln and Malmo would be seen as an easy run in even the Conference League!

I'm as happy to denigrate Forest's achievements just as much as the next guy, but Koln did win the Bundesliga the previous season. Would kinda be like playing Leverkusen this season. The other two I can understand.

It would now, but they were the champions of their leagues back then.

I hate Forest, but putting down their European Cups is plain daft.

Consider the standard of their Leagues. Euro competition was very poor during that era which saw English clubs win the old European Cup 7 times out of 8 seasons.

Clough never won the FA Cup which was a higher standard.

I hate Forest as much as the next Foxes fan, but we can't belittle their historic achievements.

You can only beat who you're drawn against, and those teams who progressed to the later stages of the - what was then called "The European Cup" - got there on merit.

I think we can all agree (relegation the season before last aside) recent history has seen us as the more successful East Midlands club.

Fans of teams like Forest and Leeds etc can live off past glories, it has very little bearing on the here and now (minor reputation boost perhaps...).

What I'm more concerned about is the here and now. So let's just beat the %£#=ers tomorrow!

Oh yes we can.

Why though?

It's really quite sad if Forest fans have to go back half a century to justify them as ever being "good".

Even sadder if we do.

Few will remember their achievements firsthand.

Our glory days are still fresh in the memory.

Mate - it was the proper champions cup - every team a league winner.
before all the ‘big teams’ bought all the best players

Whilst malmo were clearly not the strongest team in the tournament, that’s what sometimes happens in cup competitions. (Remember tranmere?)

If we win 6 of our last 30 games, do you think that’ll be enough to stay up? That would be 27 points plus you’d think 6 or 7 draws. And I’d like to think that would be a worst case scenario.

You reckon we'll only get 27 points? 2nd week in January we'll get hit for a points deduction which even Perry Mason won't be able to get us out of. But we'll still finish mid table! 😁💙🦊🏆

It feels a little disingenuous trying diminish those Forest achievements I, just about, remember them…

Winning the league in the way they did and winning two European cups on the bounce, irrespective of how and when it was achieved, was and continues to be unbelievably impressive…. We’d be dining out on it for years, as we will with our more recent achievements….

The two sets of achievements were very different…. Folk often fall into the trap of trying to compare them!

Without Clough and Taylor F*rest literally would be totally nobodies in world football

Fair play to them they had the best football manager there's probably ever been in my view - Could turn dogshite in to diamonds

It's no rivalry unless you play them.

I think we should make more of the pre and post Clough years in terms of piss taking though.

Nothing before, nothing after*
