Probably not a positive. You’ll struggle to find one of that Ferguson team whom been a decent manager

This is why I do find it pretty funny when people compare SAF with Guardiola. Many people that worked under Guardiola have gone onto be very good managers, whereas I'm struggling to name anyone that worked under SAF that has proven themselves to be a good manager.

Another left field appointment from us and that didn't work out too bad last year. I'm guessing Ruud has given assurance that he'll be here next season if we go down. Cause surely that would of been something we'd of been after being in a relegation battle, I suppose the length of the contract will give us an idea when it's announced.

You can't underestimate how much our dressing room needs someone of his stature. We got it with Rodgers when he come in at a time when it was even more needed with the likes of Kasper and Morgan still here dictating so much.

Even though Cooper had done more as a coach, there's not a chance he has the potential to command the respect Ruud does.

So poisoned I like you were banned from commenting in the thread mate!

Madness lol

Ah well, I'm happy with the appointment and look forward to seeing how it all pans out. Not that bothered about Saturday as I don't expect much in such a short time, but then two home games to make an impression would be a fab way to start properly.

All fair points but the difference is that their managerial choices were then backed up by a consistent and well-thought through transfer policy and approach.

We’re increasingly scattergun in recruitment these days and so bringing in an inexperienced manager is a risk.

Very true, there's no comparison between us and Brighton. They are a very well run club from the owner downwards, using complex analytics in picking players and managers. We on the hand make our decisions by picking names out a hat. Hopefully RVN is successful.

He really is just a bit of a nob isn't he?

He really is. He's just another pundit who looks on the surface of clubs outside the top 6

Always been a bellend and always had it in for us for some unknown reason.

Had a chip on his shoulder about us ever since we poached Rodgers from Celtic.

Nothing wrong with having slightly higher expectations. I’m quite happy with this appointment. A bit of a risk granted but that’s the game we play in. I do have a bit of sympathy for cooper but it just wasn’t a good fit and didn’t work out. Time to move on and upwards. As

for Chris Sutton’s views….

Sutton can't stand us but as soon as we do things right he'll just go with that. Whenever we make a contentious decision he loves to dig the knife in a bit deeper.

Remember when Brighton sacked Chris Hughton, who'd got them promoted and kept them in the Premier League for two seasons? The backlash to that was pretty big. They replaced him with Potter who had previously managed in Sweden and had just finished 10th in the championship with Swansea. That decision in time transformed the club, through granted it took a while. They then appointed De Zerbi who had predominantly managed bottom half or mid-table clubs in Serie A and now have a manager who is literally 31 years-old. Every appointment they've made has been a gamble and they haven't looked back. Had they listened to so called experts and continued plodding along with Hughton, they certainly wouldn't have played in Europe and be finishing well in the top half of the premier league.

On Potter.

In 6 years, he had taken a 4th tier Swedish team into the top tier. Finished top 8 and qualified for the Europa League group stage. All this without having a sugar daddy financing it.

There's a world of difference between Tony Bloom and his analytical staff researching and screening suitable candidates, and Jon Rudkin and Top picking up the top CV off the pile and knowing the name.

I'm not disputing how much better Brighton are behind the scenes. However, Potter was still a huge gamble. Especially given the backlash they'd received from the media for sacking Hughton.
