I'm not just talking about tonight when a defeat was always very likely and we tried our best, despite the clear quality gap. I'm talking about across the 5 games RVN has been in charge I'm not sure we are much better than under Cooper. We still don't create anywhere near enough and we concede way too many shots and chances. Early days of course, but without a great transfer window we are doomed, I think, irrespective of who is in the dugout.

The players probably aren’t good enough but at least there seems to be some sort of game plan each week that they’re trying to implement, which is much different to how we used to just get it to Ayew and pray.

Let’s also not forget how much of a debacle the preseason was and how nobody at or around the club had any idea of what we were trying to do under Cooper (including Cooper) for many months.

I actually think the performance was fine. Fine for a completely dogshit squad.

When you lack quality you want to see a bit of effort and endeavour, that was there at least.

Watching Justin again was rough. This dude looks finished.

January is probably the biggest transfer window in our recent history.

Mate, it's all about expectations

That was sub par from me.  Other than the Sala goal all were avoidable and that Daka miss was criminal, he has to hit the target.  If I was harsh all goals were avoidable, it's about what you expect from professional players and there always alot more we could have done.

Liverpool as of now are the best team in the world and we’re missing 5 starting players.

Calm down. I’m by no means a happy clapper but losing 3-1 at Anfield isn’t exactly a cause for concern.

Agree, though it was bad that we lost 3-0 to Wolves last week. Now they are out of the relegation zone with another win over Man Utd.

The chronic squad mismanagement from the last season of Rodgers onwards is killing us.

Soumare a regular starter after being loaned out cause he was too crap for the championship :frusty:

My take , really missing Wilfred in the middle , soumare turns so slow and then takes far too long to pass the ball .
but the real problem is our players just don’t have the skill set to find a player or beat a player and drive forward , we always look to go back more than go forward . We are in real trouble unless we get 3-5 new players , a centre back , 2 attacking play makers , not kids experienced players and centre forward , daka should never play for us again , he’s way above his pay grade

The fact that Liverpool had innumerable corners is scary, any of those could have gone in (remember how corners used to be our downfall) but the positive thing was that goals are not generally coming from corners now.

I didn't think that was too bad. I was pleased with the effort to a man. They battled to the very end, and it came down to a different level in quality.

A complete opposite to the Wolves game which is such a shame; evenly matched teams, but only one with the effort.

Let's face it, we were expecting a lot worse. They're top and we're in the relegation zone for a reason. Defending could be better for the goals, but 2 were great finishes and one they had great movement off the ball to cause chaos in the box. If Daka has done better with his chance, we might be in with more of a shout. But the quality difference was glaringly obvious.

Positives -

- no Ward...phew! He's done at this level and club.

- a much better attitude from the players and we did create a 2 decent chances.

- we scored! Great attack and to be fair a great finish by Ayew to squeeze it passed the keeper. I know it took a deflection, but it caught everyone by surprise.

- Jakub. He's definitely not up to Mads level, but he's elite. But he pulled off some good saves, and looked confident. Couldn't ask much more and more than happy to have him as backup and our number 1 next season.

Negatives

- defensive coach needed so badly. Liverpools movement was great, but we need to do better.

- it's clear we need reinforcements to have any chance. The poor manager decision and signings in the summer are taking their toll.

- we are badly missing our players who are out. Ndidi, Ricardo, Mads, Vards and Fatawu. That's a lot of players out and any relegation threatened side will struggle with.that many key players out.

- Skipp. Levy had our pants down. Rudkin out!

Like I say better than expected and if we had beaten wolves wouldnt be too disheartened by that scoreline. But the fact we lost to wolves has made our job so much harder. They won today again, so they now have momentum, where we have incredibly tough fixtures where we'll get 0pts. If wolves win again, the gap will be an impossible to close I think. Getting people in Jan has just been made harder due to us being in the relegation zone. The EFL has our leg and is pulling us back down to punish us, and not in a good sexual way. Changes we needed when we got relegated last time, alas it's groundhog day with the same people in charge above.

Could you see RvN walking away from this mess?

First half was decent, Winks, Soumare and El Khannouss were excellent in that first half, being brave on the ball and doing well in tight spaces.

The goal just before half time seemed to kill us mentally and the second half was poor, didn’t carry any threat or have an out ball.

Winks is such an important player for us, he is the only one really who can get on the ball and link the defence, midfield and attack.

Soumare still isn't up to Premiership pace. At one point, while he was deciding what to do with the ball, he was mobbed by three Liverpool players.

Justin did have a reasonable game, but we've seen the last of the player he was...sad.

They did drop heads after that second goal. But Liverpool are insurmountable at the moment. Plenty on here pessimisticly predicting 9-0 before the game.

Daka has got the 'yips' - I don't know what you do about that.

Kristiansen did well - Salah is world class level. The way he scored was sublime.

Winks ok. El lively. Mavididi needs to risk more - disappointing when he passes back instead of going for it. Stolarczuk a welcome change.

Ayew exceptional for that goal - twisted just enough to throw that defence. Vestergaard and Coady did well enough.

Buonanotte should be starting.

It's down to Nistelrooy now to inspire the team. He can be excused a couple of bad team selections, but he's got to raise his performance from now on. His main job is to infuse the lads with confidence and fight and find a selection who can battle. It'll be a close run season.

good summary. This was always ging to be  hard game... I hope the squad will take a positive from this.

Yes we have him on loan from Palace.

Cannon was never given a fair chance ... game time will not make Daka a better striker he just doesn't have that natural instinct for a goal, nobody from the u23s is anywhere near a look at . .... Vards is the only goalscorer we have ..... but I still think whoever .... we should play 2 up front ...  if we are to go down at least let's do it with a fight

First half thought we were really good, under the cosh but even in the best of times you'd expect that (Well....maybe not with the heightened expectation some on here have) but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. Was nice to see some fight and bodies on the line.

Unfortunately we conceded at the worst possible time (albeit never a good time), but to go in at HT 1-0 up would have been a real confidence booster, we invariably become shaky and then crumbled, which was disappointing but predictable.

We conceded 3 v Wolves and 3 v Liverpool but we can take some positives out of last night as opposed to v Wolves.

Maybe its because I was quicker to realise our demise and i'm years ahead of others but I really don't know what some people expect, some people really do think we're something were not though, even now.

I think this is a fair summary. I thought at the time that the goal before half time would change the game. If we went in 1-0, Liverpool might have been more frustrated and possibly make more mistakes. But alas it wasn't meant to be. They're top of the premier League and top of the champions league for a reason.

We are definitely doomed without a great transfer window… But for me there’s clear improvement under RVN, despite the injuries. We’re way better organised defensively, we also attack on both sides
