This is not meant as a scaremongering topic. I am generally someone who likes to plan ahead in case of a few scenarios.

If we were to go down. What would our starting line up look like?

Jakub

Ricardo if fit, otherwise James Justin

Nelson

Okoli

Kristensen

Winks

Ndidi

Bilal

Fatawu

Mavididi

Cannon

Possibly Souttar back from loan.

This is still a decent team for the championship and chance for them to play together and get used to uniting as a team with the aim of promotion.

I would prefer to start a team we can plan a bit of a future with. Playing Coady and Vestegaard again might be enough for championship but gives us no planning for premier league, as they are well below level required. They would stifle Ben Nelson and Okoli partnership if still around.

Alves in and around the squad and ideally getting decent game time when possible. I would loan him to a club where he plays in League one for the rest of the season. He needs 15 games and then we can judge for next season. I can’t understand why he was not loaned already. Sitting on the bench for the occasional game is going to hinder any development.

I would bring back Sammy braybooke and loan him to a team where he plays. League 2 etc. needs game time not sitting on a bench.

I am thinking the only player we would really sell would be Mads. Likely to Chelsea for 30+. I don’t think we have anyone else who could be sold for reasonable finances.

Faes to be sold for any price just to move him on.

Would Vardy be signed for one more year to get us promoted again.

Issues -

— PSR. We will likely be hit with a championship points deduction.
- manager. Will Ruud be capable to lead a team on a promotion charge. I have not been impressed with his 5 games.
- Salaries and cost cutting. We will not recoup anywhere near the money that players were  signed for. Will be a huge loss when players move on. But certain players need to leave for the longer term benefit of Leicester City
- There are separate threads for the owners. So it does not have to be said in any replies (if there are any)

Top, unfortunately has proven he is out of his depth in taking over. It could have gone one or two ways when he tragically had to take charge. Proven he is not good enough as a leader for a company.
Rudkin is incompetent / useless.

on the whole, This is still a fairly good side for the championship and capable of a promotion push.

just interested in other thoughts. This is not meant as a negative reaction due to recent games.

Decent enough team.

id imagine we’d lose kristiansen, he could easily get another serie A gig.

I’d imagine we need to pull in around 50m again, that could be tricky with this squad.

Winks, soumare, kristiansen out, possibly sell someone like soutter to a newly promoted side.

Keep your fingers crossed we can get some of the youth team into the fold.

This is about the third thread we’ve had about this. Let’s just wait and see shall we.

Agreed. It’s not us that need to prep 😂😂

Play a bit more like we did last night, and get a few buys in January and there is every chance we can stay up anyway. We lost 3-1 to Liverpool and did a cracking job for the most part compared to how we played against Wolves etc.

I think we still could have a good squad for the level.

Goalkeepers

Stolarcryk - needs a new deal as it runs out on 2026

Assuming Hermansen goes for PSR reasons (and because he is too good to play in the Championship again), and we do the right things and don’t offer Ward or Iverson new contracts! We could need a new keeper to challenge JS. Third keeper from the academy.

Cover/new rb - he has been doing well at PV so wonder if he will step up. Can b play RWB as well.

Unsure what will become of Ricardo as he has a year left until 2026. I am unsure we need 3 right backs but also can we rely on a young Brandon Cover coming through and an injury prone Ricardo. Could be too much to put on Cover so still thbom

we need a new RB.

Nelson - hopefully returns well from injury but was doing really well.

Okoli - should be good at that level.

Vestergard - still has 2 years left so can’t see him moving on. Doesn’t seem to be a bad egg as such but hopefully wages will reduce with relegation.
Coady - same as Vestergard.

New CB - get Faes out the club and replace.

Souttar - we done need 6 CB’s so the new CB might depend on whether Souttar stays at Sheffield United if they go up or goes elsewhere. Or if we could shift Vestergard or Coady as Souttar could replace on of them. I suppose we will be sitting on 6 CB’s come the summer and if you want new blood, we need to shift two, Faes plus one of the above 3.

LB is unknown. I’d be happy with Kristiansen plus a new. Looks like Thomas still has a year but is clearly done here despite the fact I have really wanted him to succeed. Probably a new CB but keep Thomas as back up if VK goes or if VK stays, bring in competition and lose Thomas.

Skipp - probably won’t be able to shift him after a year but can probably be a strong player at Championship level despite being indifferent this season. Depends if he is a ‘good egg’ and hard working etc. Any kind of attitude, thinking he’s better than he is etc I’d try to move him on. Also unsure of wages here.

Winks - contract up in 2026 so not sure what happens here but purely from a playing point of view he’d be good to keep.

Soumare/Ndidi/Choudhury are all unknowns. You’d probably part ways with all if you could as part of a clean slate and bringing new faces in. Unsure how likely it is but at the same time, if their heads were in the right place, they can all offer something. You don’t want to keep all 3, maybe one or two.

ATTACKING MIDS

Bilal - it wouldn’t surprise me if we had offers for him. Hopefully we can keep as he’d be excellent but might be a PSR casualty.

Alves - will he ever play?

WINGERS/WIDE FORWARDS

Fatawu - hopefully the injury means we keep him.
Mavididi - hadn’t really proved himself this season so assuming he doesn’t get other offers, we know he can do it in style at that level.

STRIKERS

Vardy - got to try and keep him.

Cannon

Unsure what will happen with Vardy and Daka. I like Daka but it might be best if we could part ways with him going into his last year of wages wise it is more financially viable to replace.

Release out of contract

WARD!!

Iverson

Sell and get away from the squad (at all costs).

Faes

Justin

Sell but less urgent than above (or selling is unlikely so realistically we probably keep some of all of these)

Daka

Soumare

Vestergard and/or Coady

Ayew - unlikely to go but one year left and could offer something as a squad player/experience if he is the right character.

BDR - Same as above with Ayew but 2 years left.

Braybrooke - based on getting no minutes for a long time now isn’t going to make it so we should get him gone for the sake of him having a career all.

Thats just a run down of what we have now but it’s really difficult without concept of who might go and the likelihood. You could put loads in the ‘bin’ list but realistically, many probably won’t so it’s looking who can still offer at that level and keeping those who at least could show the right personality for the fight.

Too many variables. Not worth evening thinking about it as a possibility now.

Correct there are so many variables. However, this season is so bloody miserable and the writing is on the wall so personally I find thinking about new season and the future more positive as it shows we still have a lot going for us.

We will be going straight down to league 1 if we get relegated this s3ason so I doubt any of those players will be here.

Getting relegated is going to **** Leicester the EFL are waiting to absolutely hammer us

Can we do a squad for league 1 thread as well please? Life isn’t miserable enough hanging out of my arse at work so I need a bit more.

I might get proven wrong but this seems very dramatic.

In terms of players, of course many of them will still be here. I think only Ward and Iverson are out of contract. Where are the rest of them supposedly going? Even relegated sides don’t lose their entire squad. A few assets gets taken (see Barnes and Maddison), some leave on frees (as I say that is minimal for the coming summer). Otherwise it’s whether we can shift unwanted players (we are terrible at this) or that newly promoted sides take a punt on someone who is lower Premier quality.

I can see goalkeepers being where we are gutted with the two out of contract and Hermansen the most likely asset to go. As such, keeping Stolarcryk will be key.

People talking about relegation to league one. What kind of deduction do people really think we will get? Won’t be like 50 points. Even something like 20 points (still an extreme estimate) wouldn’t automatically put us down if we are decent on the pitch.

Best we can do is get a hungry manager who is capable of building a squad of young and hungry players, utilise the players we have coming through. Probably a hard ask with Top and Rudkin but with a competent club should be able to ride the punishment without going into the abyss.

I think if we could retain the right senior pros then we could have more than a decent enough squad to compete and start a new era, a handful of reasonable additions and a young hungry coach happy to work with young players and we could still be a force in the championship. But would also mean our DoF would have to work overtime to move on the deadwood such as Ayew, BDCR, Hamza, VK & Daka, Faes, Soumare, Souttar and cut our losses with players such as Wilf and Ricardo where injuries have taken their toll. However most if not all will have relatively low PSR book values so should be in a position where we can move them on for sensible prices and be able to show a small profit or at least mitigate the need to show a loss.

I have assumed that Mads, Bilal and Abdul would go as premier league clubs would see these as attractive options and would hopefully mitigate any PSR breach risk.

The basis of my squad would be

Goalkeepers

Stolarcryk

New Signing (back up)

Bausor as 3rd choice

Right Back

James Justin

Brandon Cover or Jayden Jospeh

Defenders

Vestergaard or Coady

Nelson

Okoli

New Signing

promote Godsmark-Ford or Wilson- Brown from academy

Left Back

New Signing

New Signing

Midfielders

Winks

Skipp

Cartwright

Braybrooke

Ewing

Briggs

New signing

Wingers

Mavididi

McAteer

Alves

Monga

Wanya

Strikers

Vardy

Cannon

New Signing

I am not saying we would win the championship but that squad should have enough to be competitive especially if we can bring in 4/5 really promising players with high ceilings and another one or two astute signings to supplement the more experienced players.

champions again ole ole

I like part of the team. Attacking wise we should be ok with that line up.

Personally I would like to see Nelson at CB with Souttar. However both have had quite serious injuries this season. Coady and Vestegaard will likely be used again next season with Faes leaving.

I am still not sure on Skipp playing in CM. I just do not see what he does. Winks and BEK will be great. Ndidi will likely stay and could play those 3 together would be a decent midfield.

The QPR game shows we have a good team for the league below. But we could be hit with a points deduction as well.

Personally I would keep Cannon and let him start as the 9.

Mavididi, Cannon and Fatawu is a very decent front 3 in the Championship.

If we go down, we’ll have a fire sale before the 30th June. We are going to wipe loads off the wage bill come the start of July just by Vardy leaving.

I’d expect Hermansen, Faes, Winks, El Khannous and maybe Kristiansen to be sold. They’ll be done on the cheap though.

Ward, Iversen, Vardy and Thomas will leave on a free transfer.

Due to the injuries sustained by Fatawu, Souttar, Nelson and Ricardo, we’ll see them next season.

We will also be into the last year of the contract for Stolarkzyk, Justin, Coady, Soumare, Daka and Ayew. So a strong chance we might look to move some of them on as well.

We could be set for a Burnley style overhaul with lots of players coming / going.

Problem is how can we replace them? All those players leave and with the transfer embargo we can't replace them.

Goal keepers - Ward, Iversen and Mads go. Left with Jakub.

Strikers - Cannon sold this window, Vards leaving, Edouard gone. Left with 1 striker in Daka.

El Khannous, Winks, Ndidi, maybe Soumare gone, who plays in midfield.

Kristiansen, Faes, Thomas, Okoli gone, we'll have no left back and no cover at CB.

Is there potential of not able to put out a competitive squad out with a points deduction.

I dont disagree with you, but it shows what a mess we are.
