I was going to say they've just sold someone for £9m...but then remembered we've sold Cannon for £10m+...

 

I'm baffled we're not doing anything in the market. I know it's a tough window, but still...

If managers look after recruitment....as per the summer. Maybe its RvN fault we're not signing anyone?

The difference is that Brighton will have likely looked at Scandinavia, Croatia etc and decided that Cashin was their best option due to his qualities and how he fits into the team.

 

The last centreback we signed from the championship on the other hand in Souttar (£15mil!) has played less than 20 games for us in 3 years, including when we were in the championship. 

 

One club has a clear strategy behind their squad planning, buying players with the qualities that the team needs, both unknown gems from the Eredivise (Van Hecke for €2mil) and players from the lower leagues in England. The other buys players that are almost instantly frozen out by the managers (Okoli and Skipp) because minimal thought and effort was put into determining if they were the right fit.

 

I will eat my words if 3 years down the line Cashin has barely played for Brighton btw.

Given previous windows and the amount of storied leaked left and right about how slow, ponderous and out of touch with the modern game our recruitment is....I'm not that surprised. Ha

Managers have clearly been giving a bigger say on whom we sign or the profile of player we sign in recent years, Ruud hinted about his own network. 
 

The recruitment process is managed by others and ultimately signed off by the DOF not by the manager. 
 

Long term planning and strategy wouldn’t have been anything to do with a manager in a job for two months. 

 

Steve Cooper’s insistence on premier league experience appears to have left us with average players and likely no room to spend with the threat of relegation. Skipp being one of the follys. 
 

We mostly predicted this is how it’ll play out, Ruud seemed confident but clearly now frustrated. In fairness to him he has shown some fight in the light of the BS he has had to make do with.

Edwards, Zalewski, Buchanan and Ngonge, four suitable wingers for us who were available all heading elsewhere. 
 

We’re gonna end up with someone underwhelming like Oxlade-Chamberlain or Kouame of Fiorentina aren’t we

RVN even had in one of his first press conferences that they'd be money to bring players in

and look at it, we've only brought 1 in, when we clearly need least 3/4 min.

Well yeh as Brighton are in a position where they can spend money on players that may not be first team ready now but are ones for the future. We unfortunately aren't in that position so unless we were confident this lad would come straight into our team and be better than what we already have, then of course there would be doubts.
