Parma are reportedly targeting a deal for Italy defender Caleb Okoli with Premier League side Leicester City after the two clubs reached an agreement to send Woyo Coulibaly in the other direction.

According to updates in Italy, Parma are looking to add several defenders to their ranks in January. Fabio Pecchia’s side have already wrapped up a deal with Genoa for Alessandro Vogliacco, and are now hoping to follow that up with a deal for Okoli.

Gianluca Di Marzio insists that Okoli is Leicester’s first choice to come in this January following Vogliacco’s move.

Parma have, of course, been in contact with Leicester recently to arrange a deal for Woyo Coulibaly, who has already confirmed his departure from Parma and is expected to be announced by the Foxes in the coming days.

Okoli has played on 13 occasions in the Premier League this season, but is not a guaranteed starter at the King Power stadium.

The 23-year-old has been included in several of Luciano Spalletti’s Italy national team squads this season, but is yet to earn his first cap for the senior side.

I get the feeling Parma want Okoli and in order to get him cheaper have given us Woyo as part of the deal, seems more us than finding a full back in Italy 🤔

I bet he goes for less than we paid for him even taking into account the other deal.

We're terrible at making any money virtually all of our transfers.

Looks like faeces might go cheap too at the end of the season.

Well that depends on what we actually paid for him. From comments on here it appears to range from €8m initially to £13m. Take your pick!

Wouldn't be surprised if we over pay for Woyo, they over pay for Okoli.

Nice little PSR findle.

I'd also imagine some of our fee for Okoli original transfer was incentive based, which we avoid by move him on.

Shame, I thought that he was going to be a good 'un for us. But if he wants to go back then good luck to him.

Big shame. I liked him and he would have got better too. Good luck to him.

I highly doubt Parma have enough cash to make that worth our while. The price difference between the two is enormous.

PSR rules are Premier League/EFL.

This one is really odd for me, always looked very solid when I’ve seen him and has pace. Unless it’s a personality clash or he hasn’t settled in the UK.

Agreed. If he wants out then fair enough, but I feel there's a good player in there if we can get someone competent and experienced alongside him.

I know, but Serie A have their own FFP rules.

I was using it as a general term for FFP as I was being lazy.

Gotcha.

I think the fact that we’re even paying £2m for Woyo is enough of a FFP bonus for them.

Nothing against Caleb, think he's an alright defender. But i'm not sure he's good enough on the ball from what i've seen of him. He's definitely behind Vestergaard and Wout, probably even Coady. I think RVN just doesn't fancy him.  Sounds like we need funds for other positions so probably best to cash in if there's an offer.

We have 5 straight defeats. Defensive errors. Yet, Ruud hasnt used him. Sometimes something doesnt fit. You've got to back whichever manager is in charge and at the moment, the manager is choosing not to use him.

Get a good fee and acquire someone who fits the current set up.

On Okoli, I saw more from him than I have seen from Faes and Coady. So I am surprised he hasnt featured more under Ruud.

Maybe he hasn't settled, but selling a 23 year old centre back who is on the cusp of the Italian squad seems quite short-sighted to me, especially when you've got Coady and Vestergaard coming to the end of their careers.

I doubt we get the money we paid for him, but he may have some kind of release clause if we go down, so we're cashing in now as he's not playing.

There’s not a chance Parma will pay £15m

Yea they could do, but as it's an Italian club expect the payments to be spread out over 30 years.

Will be a loan with option to buy for about 12m, Parma will then try to negotiate that down to about 1.2m at the end of the season, the Italian way.

Ric made a good point on BSLB that really £3m for a bottom half Serie A defender with 6 months left is a big overpay - and we never shift unwanted to players for a decent fee. If we want rid of Okoli/he wants out we have to at the very least break even.

Also Vestergaard is 32.5, Coady is almost 32, Faes is seemingly off at some point. That just leaves us with Okoli and Nelson as long term options and I wouldn't trust us to upgrade on Okoli this window.

Coady is 32? I genuinely thought he was pushing 40!
