Can't believe he's still only 28.

If we actually make decent money on him after getting him to sign on last summer we'll actually have done good business for once.

I can't see him wanting another season in the Championship.

Leicester City and Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has emerged as a key summer target for Atletico Madrid and Real Betis, with AS Monaco also showing strong interest in securing his signature, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old, who has been a crucial part of Leicester’s squad in recent years, is expected to leave the club at the end of the season despite signing a new contract last summer.

Atletico Madrid, in particular, are keen to reinforce their midfield as they look to find a long-term replacement for club captain Koke Resurrección, who is entering the latter stages of his career. The anticipated departure of Thomas Lemar has also increased the urgency for reinforcements at the Metropolitano.

Atleti’s sporting department has been actively scouting midfielders over the past few months, with Mallorca’s Samu Costa among the names on their shortlist.

However, Ndidi’s ability to break up play and provide defensive stability has made him a serious candidate for the role, according to a report by CaughtOffside.

The Super Eagles star is not new to interest from Spanish clubs with Barcelona previously linked with his services but no concrete moves followed.

Atletico are not alone in their pursuit of Ndidi.

Fellow La Liga side Real Betis are also in the market for a defensive midfielder, with reports suggesting they are preparing for the departure of Johnny Cardoso, who is linked with a summer switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have been tracking Ndidi for some time and reportedly made a £20 million bid for him during the winter transfer window.

That offer, which included an obligation to buy and additional performance-based payments, was turned down by Leicester, who opted to keep the midfielder as they push to retain their Premier League status.

Despite Leicester’s stance in January, it is widely expected that Ndidi will depart in the summer, with all three clubs preparing fresh approaches.

Ndidi has endured a stop-start campaign due to injury, with a hamstring problem limiting his involvement earlier in the season. However, he has recently regained fitness and is beginning to feature more regularly under Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Although his playing time has been somewhat restricted this season, Leicester still value his experience and leadership, which made them reluctant to sell in January.

However, with his contract running until 2027, the club could demand a substantial fee should they decide to cash in during the upcoming transfer window.

He deserves a move like this, thought it was very odd he didn’t leave on a free before

I love Wilf and would be happy if he went to further the latter part of his career, but have a horrible feeling IF he does, he ends up in a similar situation to how Soyunchu and Ihenacho have.

If its in Monaco then he’ll cope ………..

Pure profit for PSR will be important in the summer - £20m wouldn’t be bad at all, might give us a fighting chance of keeping BEK if clubs come knocking, assuming we sell Hermansen for a large PSR profit too.

He fully deserves his move, he is absolutely wasted on us, he's been a fantastic servant and should be fondly remembered as one of the best players of a generation for us. Leicester in it's current state do not deserve him.

Very correct but I’d also throw in he’s good for a three month injury every season now

Love Wilf and will be very sad to see him go, he's been the perfect professional and a great servant to the club.

Wouldn't blame him and deserves more than what we can provide.

Nobody is paying £15m plus for him. Can’t see us selling him for less than that. I imagine he’ll be here next season whichever league we’re in, unless he throws his toys out the pram.

I'd imagine he has a low release clause in the event of relegation or an acceptable offer in order to resign for us last summer. If people think that is 15+ or he stays with us then they're in dreamland.

Monaco offered more than that in January

I’d be surprised at that when he was available for free in the summer.
However, if true I’d happily take £15m plus for him in the summer.

To be honest I assume the reason why no one signed him in the summer on a free was his wage. Unless he’s up for a cut I doubt many would afford him the lifestyle our Jon boy has.

Loan move with a buy option was the best source. Highly doubt anywhere close to that figure was offered.

Atletico would be an odd move. He'd surely break trying to fit into their uber gegenpress. Can't see him being able to live with the intensity Simeone's system.

Would he not be ideal for sweeping up at the base of midfield and covering empty spaces exposed by those who may get caught out of position when pressing high?

Maybe not quite 2019-2021 level but still, makes sense to me.

The fact we had enquiries from European teams to loan our first team players during a relegation battle is quite telling. All got wind of how bad our wage bill is and our players agents probably touting themselves to jump ship.

Massive part of the last relegation....about to be relegated with us for a second time....regularly injured...ran his contract down to try and force a move elsewhere.

Yet he's 'too good for us' and 'deserves his big move'.

Nah lol

He's not good enough on the ball to warrant anyone paying £15m+. I do think his ball winning is back to pretty good level, but he's so one-dimensional, and just wouldn't fit into a team who have the sort of money we'd want available to spend...

didn’t  he extend it last season?
