Not a Linker fanboy BUT gotta admit the ending for MOTD they did for him was superb.

I almost forgot about the millions he has made out of us taxpayers for presenting a few hours a week and almost shed half a tear!!!

Really Raj....you surprise me.

Some folk seem to forget there was a MoTD before and will be now the barrow-boy from Leicester has gone.

There's still a Football Focus too. A few beeb changes later and it's watched by 27 people

MoTD will be better off in the long run having someone who is prepared to do the job they are employed to do.

Yes with two women and a male who never played the game professionally. What do they know about the game.

It was the end of an era on Sunday Night.

Hopefully someone else steps up to the challenge now.

It was very hard to replace Des Lynam and although some of the first few seasons were quite ropey Lineker turned out to be quite good in the role.

Always was excellent in reviewing a game and even brought out the best in the likes of Shearer and Wright.

In some ways he might have even bettered Des as he was also excellent in covering European Football.

Will be a loss but the good thing about Media now is that he'll popup somewhere.

No impartiality here. An obvious dislike for Lineker so not going to be an impartial assessment of his time on MOTD. Personally thought he was an excellent presenter and at least gave City mentions they wouldn’t get anywhere else. Good that not all presenters are so called big 6 fans.

Football Focus is dire these days. Hopefully Motd will not suffer the same decline. Putting aside why Gary left he was very good but had a very good run. Looking at the calibre of the new presenters I'm hopeful it will be OK. Don't necessarily think there should be an ex player in the chair.

Given the number of Saturday lunchtime games we'll have next season, Football Focus won't matter too much to us.

Especially now we're back outside the Premier League.

Stopped watching it quite some time ago tbh. Premiership football is so overhyped now and most of it very dull. I think some of the Champions League football in comparison has been far more entertaining.

As well as being able to get highlights pretty much straight after the game via youtube. Cant remember the last time i watched it.

Despite this, I think I remember Lineker saying that MOTD audiences haven't decreased as much as they thought it would.

Am I the only one out of sync with this view.

Less analysis and more of the action please

Match of the Day should show fewer Premier League highlights and more analysis, says BBC chairman Samir Shah.

The BBC has a deal to show highlights of top-flight matches until the end of the 2028-29 season, with Match of the Day broadcast on Saturday evenings and MOTD2 on Sunday evenings.

Shah told the Sunday Times, external that many fans had watched Premier League goals and action before Match of the Day is broadcast.

Shah said the show "should not be built around highlights".

He added: "It should be built around analysis and examination of the match to give viewers a deeper insight."

Although the BBC is politically independent, its chairperson is appointed by the government.

In his role as chair of the BBC's board Shah is charge of upholding and protecting the BBC's independence and ensuring the BBC fulfils its mission to inform, educate and entertain.

Match of the Day celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2024.

It is hosted by former England striker Gary Lineker, who will step down at the end of this season.

I agree about 8pm on a Sunday, not too late as most are working the next day

Surely Sunday morning defeats the reasoning for not having it Saturday evening
