Begs the question - why aren’t we stopping production of plastics (looking at you, fossil fuel industry 👀)

Money. The answer is always money.

Which is ironic now that most notes are made of plastic themselves.

Yep, money through convenience to the end user.

So we either need a marketable alternate that fits the uses plastics play in our lives, or do without them, with all the consequences for quality of life that entails.

Exactly, plastic is light and cheap. Even with these new taxes coming in soon because of its weight plastic is still going to be used as companies wont invest in alternatives.

I think i have eluded to it before but i work for a packaging supplier and one of my projects currently is plastic take out.

One example i have worked on recently  plastic collation trays used in supermarkets for yogurt pots. They are single use and could easily be wiped out by a paper based solution. The big boys (muller etc.) wont move as they cost about twice as much and no one is applying pressure for them to move. Until the retailers force them to they wont, the retailers wont force them until they have to because it costs more about 5-10% more. So that easy solution could be fixed if people just took a small hit on their bottom line, but they wont.

In one retailer last year 8 million of these were used and thrown away! so times that by all the retailers, all the yogurt lines that use the plastic trays and in the UK alone you are looking at probably 50-60 million of these trays....

There's a tiny island on the border of Spain and France, near Bilbao, called Pheasant Island.

Spain administrate it for 6 months of the year. France do the other 6 months.

No one lives there.

How incredible ChatGPT is when it comes to changing images.

I've pretty much resisted AI to this point but took the plunge today and signed up for £20 a month.

Spent all evening uploading pictures of rooms of the old fashioned house we're about to buy and asking ChatGPT to update each room to a more modern style.

Unbelievable results but surely this will put the likes of kitchen planners and interior designers out of work?

Spain's borders are weird. Only found out about Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera the other day as well

I still havent got into AI and ChatGT but listening to others most jobs will be redundant in another 10 years.

Thats my im telling my kids to get a skill rather than a job which will be automated in a few years.

Worrying in a way unless you chose the right path

I must be getting old, I couldn't believe what I was watching when I saw the ad on TV. People literally sniffing others in said area.

I don't know why, but it just seemed amusing that you mentioned Sweden and Denmark on the eve of Eurovision.

Talking of plastic, I found out on Sunday the chairs at the KP are more robust than they look and capable of taking the skin off your shins, causing heavy bruising, when exuberantly celebrating a 200th goal for Vardy.

And, following the above incident, getting bloodstains out of clothes is more difficult than in TV crime drama.

we need a replacement for Vardy and theres no thread. i know his locker isnt even cold yet but where the **** are all the goals going to come from now?

every piece of plastic that has ever been made is still on the Earth!

Surely we sent some into space on rockets?

Speaking of plastic and rockets; I've only just discovered that NASA have information on their website regarding making plastic pop bottle rockets. Loads of stuff on YouTube too, of course. However, the NASA site also has a plastic bottle flight simulator

You can use it to calculate weight coefficients, drag, thrust, different fuel (water) and so on.
