Isn’t Evans already on a scholarship as he’s a school year older than monga? So has completed his GCSE’s?

Most kids over 16 who are with clubs are on a scholarship

Not announced on the club website re contract extension or signing a deal, so presumably has announced to the club he isn’t signing a deal with us.

Or it's just not agreed yet? Lets not jump to conclusions :)

I think it's just a waiting game as above, foxestalk seems to have congregated the most impatient fan base and given them usernames.

There's no way Evans gets a go up front for us.  Not saying he shouldn't. I just don't think he'll get that chance this season.  He wasn't being given a go before we got Carranza in, so I can't see the Argentinian having any baring on Evans chances as a striker.

May get a chance with Daka off to Afcon.

Marti will have to shuffle if Ayew et al keep firing blanks.

Needs to start banging them in for the u21s and force Cifuentes's hands. Realistically the striker position is still very open.

Sadly it's easier said than done as he's not getting much service for the u21s, Aluko is the only creative player in the side and he's a right back.

Last u21 game I saw he was playing wide though.  Is he gonna get the chance as a striker?

He's played striker against Valencia and Spurs recently. Scored against Spurs but also missed a sitter. Didn't do much against Valencia but there were a couple times he lost his marker but didn't receive the ball in behind.

Despite him not being in the best form at the moment id still rather have him up front than Ayew.

This year is make or break at this club. Think he will do brilliantly when he goes elsewhere.

Mark this post if you like.

Make or “break”? He’s only 17 🤣🤣🤣

I don't know why people are so quick to force young players to be so prominent.

Look at someone like Semenyo, he's 25 now. Too often see players written off by the time they're only 21/22/23.

I don’t agree with the point about Evans at all (the original point about make and break).

However, there is make and break career wise and just at a particular club. Vardy is a great example and examples such as Semenyo as you say and plenty more who don’t fly onto the scene in the PL as a teenager.

At the club is a bit different though. Take Nelson, he’s young so has plenty of time to make it to the top in his career so this year may not be make or break for him. But it could be in terms of a future with us as you’d have to imagine he will move on to play.

In terms of Evans, maybe it could be the case in terms of his future at the club but a 17 year old Evans would definitely be more impatient than a 21 year old Nelson for wanting out at this stage.

Make or break for the club not for Evans.

Evans will do fine elsewhere but why would he want to sign a contract here when the manager doesnt rate him or the academy in general.

Evans will be looking at the way we have handled Nelson, who has been around the first team since 16, played well for us in the championship when given a chance, had a successful loan spell at this level yet has been left to rot. He will also be looking at Page who was lured in with first team starts only to be sent back to the u21s when we got him tied down on a new contract.

He is only 17 but he's still better than Carranza , the message is clear to the academy players that the senior players will always take priority irrespective of ability.

Got to agree here. We have got it right with Monga but he’s about the only one. Page you could understand the starts were due to lack of signings at the time. But why he has been dropped from the bench is the disappointment.

The big one is Nelson of course. If he is not good enough then fine, sell him and move on. But people don’t think that do they. The consensus seems to be he will be very good but just not yet, despite him proving himself in this league but apparently 45 minutes coming in from the cold in the cup is a more accurate reference than the time last season.

I think people who justify his exclusion or so ‘he’ll get his chance’ etc, don’t really understand the implications on both him and on other young players like you say. There seems an assumption that these young players will just hang around as long as we want them to until we are ready. But they won’t.

I think that's a tough argument to make. Monga was scoring and assisting for fun at youth level but since making the step up has "only" (please don't pull me up on this stat, it's purely illustrative) contributed 2 in 16 so the step up is obviously huge. Completely reasonable to suspect Evans' numbers would drop off a cliff as well if he was starting games at senior level. Equally as reasonable to think Caranza would score for fun if he played U18 games now.

Monga wasnt scoring and assisting for fun in the u21s, he was promoted because of his ability, not his end product. He is contributing similarly in the championship as he was in u21 level, a goal or assist every 170 minutes in the championship compared to every 140 minutes in PL2.

I would be very confident in Evans scoring that chance Carranza had against Swansea. Even though Carranza is playing at a higher level the way he took that chance seemed very unnatural whereas Evans is a natural goalscorer. That kind of instinct doesnt change because of the opposition theyre playing against.
