I get that but selling arguably our best player under their market value is never good business.

Well we've just sold one of our worst players for over his market value so swings and roundabouts.

Unpopular opinion here: I'm not convinced by Jakub. Not by his footwork anyway. A pretty significant downgrade on Mads, IMHO.

Hope he makes me look a twat for saying this lol

I understand exactly where you're coming from. Decent shot stopper but Jakub would be sometimes better off playing rugby with the amount of times he kicks the ball into touch.

Either we have priced Mads out of a move, or West Ham are doing the classic move of letting us know they have other options  to force us to accept their offer…

But with more match practice, that is something that’s easily improved.

They better be paying £20m +
Shame for him to go, but one of our most sellable assets with a decent back-up ready.

When comparing Mads and Jakub...

*Ball at feet* Mads is far superior.

*Comand of area* Jakub is a fair bit better.

*Shot stopping* Mads edges it.

....So yes, Mads is better over all but for the sake of losing a keeper who can start attacks, we are gaining one that should make us stronger in dealing with crosses coming into the box. More importantly, we are gaining a bit more financial security and hopefully a striker who can actually score goals so I reckon this has to happen.

I do agree with regards to his footwork and passing ability, it is very well below the level of Mads and I think we will have a lot more occassions this season of it playing us into trouble

However I do think he is just as good a shotstopper, and is actually an improvement on commanding his areas from corners and crosses

Did feel a bit more confident from corners with stol in goal to be fair

Only if we have a decent sell on.

I would only take £20m now if there were some achievable addons and 10-15% sell on.

And of course Rudkin has placed that in there hasn’t he - Not !!!

Would be a shame to see him go to a Premier League team, but that’s what you get for getting relegated I’m afraid.

If he ends up leaving this week, it’s the perfect time imo. Perfect window to assess Stolarczyk, see how he goes in the first few games of the season, then make a decision towards the end of the window on whether he is viable to be number 1.

I wouldn’t be surprised if another goalkeeper comes in who is better with his feet, but like Hermansen, numerous potential bargains to be had across Europe.

Let’s be honest, he’s not a necessity for us achieving our aim this season, he’d be a luxury. We’ve got a very capable goalie to replace him who’s worked through our system

West ham are either completely incompetent and have no idea what they're doing....or absolute geniuses at negotiation.

I've no idea which.

or....third option...... people just make sh*t up on the internet to make it sound like they have some relevance rather than being quite pathetic individuals desperately seeking some form of attention and validation

I feel like a few people are underestimating how important having a keeper who's good with their feet is in the game in 2025. It's not really good enough to just be a good shot-stopper anymore.

Cifuentes likes a counter attacking style concentrated on the flanks, I'd imagine he'd favour a keeper who can play accurate passes out wide.

Mads was absolutely key to promotion in 2023/24 and so I'm gutted to see him go as I think he'd be vital. I understand why it's a good deal, though.

Wouldn't be surprised to see us sign another goalkeeper to properly challenge Stolarczyk.

I don’t think anyone is saying Jakob is as good as Mads. He’s got the attributes to be as good as him at least,. possibly needs some more first team exposure before we declare that, though.

And that seems to be perfect timing… he gets a year in an easier league with shed loads of games, ready for next season in the PL!

Maybe in shot stopping, but I don't think there's any chance Jakub is ever as good as Mads with his feet. I've seen nothing to suggest Jakub's improving in this area and it wasn't close to begin with.

Not that I've seen a huge amount from Jakub to deny he's not great with his feet, he must have shown some ability in training or Marcesca wouldn't have gone near him, particularly as he's one of Pep's disciples, look what Pep did to Joe Hart and Arteta to Ramsdale.

This is the most sensible post I have read on the subject of Stolarcryk taking over as number 1.

Sometimes it seems people just decide a player is not as good in a particular area as they would want so that player should be discarded. What ever happened to working on the training ground and developing areas of weakness?

I was going to make the same point about Maresca. Many on here still cream themselves over Maresca and how great he was. Well he obviously saw enough in Jakub whilst discarding Ward and Iverson. Clearly that must show he is good enough or there’s potential to be good enough with his feet.
