You just know that there are plenty City fans that will buy the kit immediately and then go back to get some dodgy crypto scam sponsor printed on it too.

I was just thinking who on earth would buy it sponsorless and then go back at a later date to have a sponsor printed on? But you’re probably right

I don’t understand why people are so bothered or baffled that the club don’t have a sponsor yet. I agree the club isn’t in the best position right now on a whole but that isnt the sole reason for this.

 

Quite a few clubs recently have done the same recently (Chelsea and Forest spring to mind and I think Chelsea went almost the entire of last season with a shirt sponsor). 
 

This impending PL gambling ban on shirts is going to have a seismic effect. Look at the Premier League and see how many clubs have betting companies, that has been the trend for 15 years or so. Next season that has to change. 
 

If we as a club have any ambition it’s to be in the PL next season, so we have to plan for that scenario. Therefore we can’t have a gambling sponsor on anything more than a 1 year deal. Also we don’t want to undersell ourselves by accepting a ‘Championship’ size fee for a few years and then we get promoted and realise we undersold ourselves. 
 

Why KP don’t just sponsor us I don’t know but I wouldn’t get worried about the next sponsor. If anything I’d be encouraged we seem to be thinking carefully

I was agreeing with much of your post until the last line. Sadly. I don't believer the delay is anything to do with us thinking carefully and more to do with lack of thinking and/or planning.

They are not thinking carefully, they are scrambling again.

I went to a digital ticket session today, lots of people commenting on the shirt / sponsor situation. All the replies from the staff there confirmed we had the shirt, but inferred, albeit politely, the sponsor situation was an internal debacle/scramble/fck up!

Sorry I think I might have written it wrong, I certainly don’t think this is some masterstroke by the people behind the scenes. They have certainly ****ed up and Kbet was certainly the preferred sponsor a month or so back. 
But I think now they’ve realised they can’t do a BC Game/Kbet (they probably didn’t even that rule was coming in!) and are now having to wait for the right one. 
The encouragement comes from the club planning for us being in the PL next season therefore not being able to sign a multi year deal with Kbet. That’s my naive take on it anyway. They probably just haven’t paid the internet bill and haven’t realised why there’s no interest

I’m not actually sure if that has been photoshopped. The way the shirt is hanging and creasing doesn’t look like there was a huge sponsor there originally.

 

I suspect they are delaying this to try and brush it under the carpet and to get more of KBet’s absolutely 100% legitimate online presence sorted.

 

If they have u-turned, it won’t be because of fan reaction, we know that much is certain.

Honestly not sure why us (or another club) look to partner with a company like PepsiCo more widely. Makes sense for us to try with the history and locality of Walkers, but there seems an opportunity with a company like that to advertise any product at any given time. Barcelona (apples and oranges, I know) have been doing that with their Spotify deal, advertising particular releases/artists based on whatever criteria. 
 

I think that’s a good way for larger corporates like that to go with sponsorship. New product? Whack it on the shirt next week. Another new product? Well get that on next month etc etc. 

 

One sponsorship deal for all products under a banner as needed seems ideal from a commercial standpoint. Maybe there are rules around chopping and changing sponsors (even if under one company) here that I’m too lazy to look into, frankly, but wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that become the future of sponsorship, particularly at the top level of the game where there are more eyes for region specific products.
