It's not their own sources, they're just basing the article off the tabloids. I do think enough of the tabloids are convinced we're actually about to sign Martin that it probably is true, though, especially given historic links to him and the profile of the managers we normally appoint. I'd be (pleasantly) surprised at this stage if he's not our next manager. 1

On the positive side (there is one!), the last time we got any new Buddhists involved (blessing the ground, lifting the 'curse'), we won the League! Yep, the Buddhist connection will add a big plus for Top. And I like the point about the last time we got Buddhists involved - if you believe in that sort of thing.

Do you blame him? Don't forget it's his job, he wants to know where he stand's. I would too. Unlike our incompetent board he's succession planning to some extent. How the club is acting IMO is highly unprofessional, and disrespectful, and whilst I won't loose a nano second of sleep when he goes I don't dislike the man. Yes I question the management side, I think he's rubbish, out if his depth, has horrendous results and stats and lacks all the things we need in a manager, and for that alone I would like us to part ways. But the club need to act way better then this, ALL of them. 9
Edingleyfox Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 Well if he does come let’s support him. Rohl has plenty of other options. It just hasn’t worked at all with the last 2 managers. As I remember it took Martin a few games to get Southampton playing but they then went on a very long unbeaten run. I’m not worried at this point about how he would do in the Premiership as I don’t know where the goals are going to come from next season. 1

Fact he hasn’t been probably suggests he’s still in the running the remain. Clubs sound out replacements all the time before pulling the trigger, it’s usually the best way to conduct it. We’ve got way bigger problems than upsetting one of the worst managers in our history

And drawing every or most matches won't get a team promoted. 1
lcfcsnow Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 Liked this quote from Will Still on the Southampton site Quote “I hate watching boring games of football,” Will Still told Sky Sports last month. “I don’t want to go to a stadium or to watch on telly something that’s like…” he puffs out his cheeks, “…I don’t want to watch that. Give me something.” 1

OK put yourself in his shoes, you are at your own job, and a rumor in the canteen starts up you could be replaced by someone new. That rumor gains traction, so you ask your line manger for a meeting to enquire whats going on, am I staying or going, but you are greeted with silence and no meeting is arranged. How would you feel? It's the same for Ruud and his job. And your point about having "way bigger problems than upsetting one of the worst managers in our history" is a bit shallow mate, regardless of how poor he's performed, the club owe him and any other person a basic level of respect, he not getting it. 2 1

You are part of the problem. For context there are roughly 11,000 professional football teams/managers globally, the Leicester and when everything is considered, like infrastructure, training ground, budget, squad, ambition, fans, recent history. Surely the Leicester job must rank in the top 10–15%. Take off your emotional hat. Despite current struggles, it is brilliant opportunity for an up-and-coming manager. Yet we continue to employ the merry go round of managers like Cooper, Dyche, Martin, or Van Nistelrooy. You’re telling me that there are only a couple of managers that would want it. I can see 60 odd (employed) in the football league alone that would see it as a step up. We must think bigger and be more inventive. xg, win ratio, recent record and honours are all obvious stats that you look at when getting a manger. However, we really should seriously considering the situation they were in, that’s nure. For me, when you consider the Southampton squad last year and what Martin achieved with it, you could argue that he in fact under achieved. He was backed, and then again the following year and managed to build the only team worst than ours. 😂 So for all those people persisting with the argument that no one would come here, out of the 11,000 employed managers in the world I reckon there is only about 200 that wouldn’t come, even less if you see what we pay. You’re telling me that Cooper, Dyche, Martin, or Van Nistelrooy are the best in that. Bollocks are they, I find it so depressing that the same names pop up every time. Please just put some thought into it. No shortage of people to come here. The football community know we're a basket case and what's the worst that can happen,a nice big pay off from a club in turmoil that won't go against your CV.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 Yeah a vegan Buddhist just ain’t gonna fly I’m afraid. The club already has its Buddha in gary Taylor fletcher and the chicken Balti pie flows through the veins of every leicestefarian
Dan Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 They're genuinely going to appoint him aren't they. We're in a genuine tailspin as a club. So depressing. 1
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 John Rudkin: Okay, another successful season has passed, let’s look to the future. Okay, so the wingers are our best position, our defence is the weak point. Let’s sign a manager who nullifies our best assets but also leaks goals for fun. Yes, I’ll sleep well tonight. Another day being a winner. 2
Happy Fox Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 I don't think Martin is a bad manager at this level, but don't think he's good enough to manage at premier league, he's distinctly average, we can do better but have to accept that this is the norm now under Top and co

The 'unbeaten run' is often parroted by Brussel apologists, but they dropped eight late points from winning positions during it, which ultimately was a big factor in them blowing automatic promotion. To Rotherham, Huddersfield, Watford and Norwich. His teams are built like a deck of cards. Him coming in to this squad, with it's pathetic mentality and Sunday League defence, is a disaster waiting to happen. Edited 26 May 2025 by OntarioFox wording - wasn't the sole reason as they dropped 8 points, they were 9 off automatics. Them losing games for fun in the run-in was the other factor!

Jazzy_Jeff Posted 26 May 2025 Posted 26 May 2025 Looking at his saints lineups this season the majority was a back 3/5. If this has been in the works for a while you’d like to think he’s got a plan for the transfer window, pre-season and beyond
