This is the concern for clubs of a similar size. At least Palace grabbed a major trophy before their best period dissolves.

Nothing to do with that, its to do with the Palace owner prioritising revenue over ambition. Same as Brighton.

Genuinely so easy for club owners to fool the masses these days. If Steve Parish wanted to find a backdoor to inject cash into the club, there are many ways to do this.

Brighton generate the highest profits, yet they don't back their managers adequately. They're not interested in success on the pitch.

Vichai wasn't here to make money, he was here to win.

Football is not equal to regular business, where the end goal is profit maximisation.

Owners that exploit football clubs and their fans to generate profit for themselves is not a good thing.

Look at what Chelsea has become today, the Americanisation of football has arrived.

Guehi being sold and Glasner confirming he is leaving at the end of the season

Bad day for Palace fans

Yup. You're only allowed to have nice things for a few years at most if you're not one of the "big boys".

We had an historically quite long run tbf.

He’s the one manager across that season that did genuinely out tactic Maresca. A lot of our other losses can be put down to crapping the bed but Hull had us on the ropes both times.

Leeds and Middlesbrough both beat us twice each with ease. We had no ideas against them and it was more than not taking chances. So Farke and Carrick definitely out thought Maresca.

Glasner has got out while he can. Selling off best players. I can see them going the same way as us. Currently in a poor spell of form too.

Wonder if Palace fans agree with your assessment of Parish

Leaving whilst his stock is high, he'll probably get a decent gig - United or a big club on the continent.

Palace have lost a lot of their behind the scenes guys (Freedman was very rated), lost Eze, Olise, Guehi. Juventus sniffing around Mateta, Wharton probably leaving this summer or next.

I feel for Palace fans

Palace could go either way from here - Bournemouth have proven that it's possible to replace big departures time and time again with the right scouting in place.

Based on what I saw from their fringe players in that Macclesfield game though, they're in for a world of hurt going forwards. They looked like us.

Congratulations to Man City for buying out the competition again.

Its not just man city though. Arsenal and Liverpool both snapping up players from palace, Bournemouth etc in the summer. Spurs tried as well.

Glasner will go before the end of the season if they are out of Europe. I remember Strachan at Southampton and McCarthy at Ipswich announcing they were going in the next summer and both left early.

Gotta feel for palace, even in our best times we never had our best two players and manager pushing to leave in January. Rancid.

They’re missing Freedman no doubt, losing so many good players and not having one of the most underrated DOFs in the country still around to replace them  is a pretty honking combination.

Good points. We know Mahrez made a fuss later but we were lucky to have him a good while and of course Vardy stayed and rejected Arsenal to become the best of all time

Part of me wouldn't be gutted if they abolished the January window.

Make do with your squad for the whole season, buy well in the close season, if you suffer injuries and don't have a back up during the season, tough nuggets.

It would stop Big Clubs who bought badly and are struggling on the pitch throwing their gold at  competitors that are successful on the pitch but can't compete financially.

Why we feeling sorry for Palace?

Glasner, Guehi & Mateta are all ambitious & whilst just being in the premier league is ok for some clubs, some managers, players & fans want something more than just existing 🤷‍♂️

Cos it's just witnessing the cycle of football these days, and the imbalance.

Best players get picked off by clubs that have the ability to spend as much as they want to, whilst smaller clubs that do have a modicum of success aren't seemingly allowed to have it long-term. And said smaller clubs can't spend like others do because they'll get into trouble by the authorities.

It's a broken industry. It's fine to have ambitious players and I don't think anyone begrudges them their moves, but this is why it's so difficult for smaller clubs to sustain a good business model. There's money in the bank, great, but what do most other clubs have to show for it?

Ooh yeah I get it’s a broken industry it’s just about pointless at the minute and if voted for I think most of us would vote for that super league so they can all disappear up their own ass’s 😂

What bugs me is the constant knocking of Leicester city for being so poorly run when really we took a risk, a gamble which didn’t work out. We got an ambitious manager, and people can say what they think of him after the event, but he polished us off, got us believing & got us playing some decent football in those early days but in order to do that we had to twist from the ‘safe’ model, we kept Youri, Maddison maybe a couple of others when really we should have sold when their stock was through the roof but in doing so we certainly don’t get the 2nd 5th place spot but can see why we did after the 1st.

To keep those together we had to start breaking wage caps and as we now know the gamble didn’t pay off.

We could easily have been Palace, Brighton, B’Mouth but would any one of their fans be going poor Leicester now.

If we didn’t have the past 10yrs we have had & just churned out 17th, 15th, 13th, 16th place finishes I  wonder what our fans would be whinging about now?

Before I’m hammered, I want a change at board level as much as anyone else now, but because everything is done in cycles and it’s time that was changed as well as playing staff.

Palace could be Leicester if they say right we are going to challenge the man, they can say to Glasner right we want to go for it the brief at the start of the season isn’t to just get 40pts, they could say to Guehi etc look we are getting names in and look at this weeks pay package how about that but they won’t risk it

Youd think theres only 5 players in the world the way you people are going on lol

Clubs selling players to bigger teams has always been a thing and always will be. Premier league clubs are in a fortunate position that if you have people who are good at their job, you have access to sign players from smaller clubs who want to move onto better things.

I know we've made it look like thats not a thing, but it really is.

I think the problem is they're not getting a great fee for Guehi. It's not bad given it'd be for nothing in the summer but when you lose a player like that, if you're getting a big fee, then I think it can be an opportunity as much as a hindrance.

I suppose they didn't cash in for more when they could've, maybe 18 months ago, but did at least get a trophy out of it. So it hasn't been in vain.

I'd be surprised to see them tank LCFC style. They've got a decent squad. Not really one built for juggling Europe and the league but it's not a squad that should struggle. One thing you have to give them really under Parish is they never look in any serious danger of going down at all.

I see more logic to selling Mateta at his age.

Feel like Glasner has been eyeing up his next job the moment he walked through the door.

Cost Palace money by forcing them to cancel the Guehi transfer in the summer and then ****s off himself anyway.
