Agree pal, but it also depends on the generation.  Peeps in 70', 80's, 90's, were subject to racism.

Im my case, I want accepted as a Brit/English here and in the punjab wasn't accepted there, they called me foreign monkey.

Good to have honest, respectable MP's who know when they've done wrong and act accordingly imho

Can't tell if sarcasm or not?

She'll have been told to go, and quite right too. Another government where those in power can't follow the laws

Aaaaaand the Tory Scum get exactly what they wanted while never facing the same level of accountability whatsoever. Bunch of ****ing *****.

Perhaps she should have voluntarily paid her tax a bit like Akshata Murty has, as she is one one of the tories you are unhappy with. Is she even a party member? Im not sure, close enough by association I suppose.

Yes, but if Labour only operate to the standards that the opposition showed in Government, then it just becomes a race to the bottom.

Part of what I liked about Starmer, was that he seemed to want to bring better standards into Government. i think that should be a minimum expectation for a politician - act appropriately, above the law and without reproach.

Which goes back to the comparison between offences. Braverman, Patterson, Pincher, Patel, Raab, Williamson, Zahawi did far, far worse things and not only received minimal coverage in comparison, some of them got ****ing knighted. The disparity is so big it's visible from space.

Rayner has said she will pay back the correct amount of tax. Murty - avoided paying £20m of tax while her husband was minister, Chancellor and PM, while he was also negotiating deals with her father's company. She didn't pay anything back, but said she'd pay it from now on.

Again, the two tier reporting and outrage has been disgraceful.

Can understand why she's had to resign and got no qualms about that decision. Shame that people of her background and upbringing are no longer represented at such a high level in government though.

Is there anyone similar to her, in that respect, in Labour at the moment, that could replace her?

Exactly, let's not forget 'partygate' etc, part of labour's electoral pitch was setting themselves as ethically different to the Tories. Still four years to go though and having taken her medicine, plenty of time for Raynor to be reshuffled back into a more senior role.

On a side note, and trivial might I add, but how bad is Starmer's handwriting lol

His letter to Rayner on the BBC site took me about 3 times to read each sentence to make sense of it!

I think in terms of political standards, she had little choice but to do this.

Labour couldn't come into Government, on a standing of improving political standards and then not address this in the right way. whatever the backlash from the opposition parties.

As Tommy G said earlier, whether it's £40,000 or £5m, the "value" of the oversight shouldn't matter.... we either have standards and adhere to them at the highest levels of government, or we don't.

The Conservatives generally didn't.... it's good to see that Labour are one the right side of the line for this one.

Bingo even if as a leftie, I can say she was tarnished. It would be held against her and the government.

Letting it linger was self-damage. Kill the whataboutery immediately.

You undo so much great work so readily.

It is not a zero sum game.

Think I'm right in saying this cabinet has the most state educated members of any in history.

It's a shame because her story ought to resonate with so many people currently falling for the fascist con, but ultimately she had no choice but to go.

Shame she waited for the report before resigning

she knew that she hadn’t acted on the advice she received and that the report would state that

people would have had more respect if she’d done this at the beginning of the week - that she’d  made an error of judgment and she could defend that given her position

will she also resign as deputy leader ?  If so, can those who have had the whip removed stand for the position ???

The spineless banana has a chance reshuffle the whole Cabinet and has the perfect excuse to now ditch Reeves and replace her with someone like Darren Jones, but he won’t.
