And show foresight how? Are you talking about people that moved to Dubai that now might be injured or killed because of events likely out of their control? I'm a bit confused what point you are making here.

I think it reasonable that someone emigrating to another country researches such a decision thoroughly. It is clear that the Middle East has been a volatile region for well over a century, but consider UAE in last 10 years

  • The Yemen War & Houthi Attacks: The UAE was a key part of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen against Houthi rebels starting in 2015. This engagement led to direct security threats. In early 2022, Houthi rebels launched drone and missile attacks targeting the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, including an attack near a fuel depot that killed three people.
  • Iran Tensions: The UAE has faced indirect threats due to rising tensions between the US/Saudi Arabia and Iran. This included maritime security incidents in the Gulf and attacks on shipping vessels.
  • Drone and Missile Attacks: Following the 2022 attacks, the U.S. had to send fighter jets to assist the UAE in defending against Houthi threats.

Of course, if someone chooses to re-locate to a region in turmoil, certain risks should have been part of that decision, even if an event is outside their control. Do you ever avoid certain areas/locations in this country because of the risk to your personal safety, even if outside your control. Or, if you were wealthy enough, would it be sensible to openly display this, perhaps while carrying a top of the range apple phone, in London - if you were mugged, it would be outside your control but would you bear any responsibility?

Do you disagree then with my points about it being illegal to be gay and have sex outside marriage, I can show you loads of stories where people have been locked up for ridiculous things.
I worked in Qatar and can tell you some horror stories there where people have been treated horrendously.

So we're finally sending a Type 45 down to med to protect our bases. Should have sent one a week ago.

Our military desperately needs money now. Hope Labour do decide to send the extra  money early to MoD as we can't go on like this

he's onto Kahn and sharia courts now …….

Thanks for pasting all that.

Not sure I agree that Dubai is “a region in turmoil”, certainly not before the last few days. Obviously there are wider issues in the region with groups like the Houthis, but Dubai itself has been pretty stabl

I really hope that sometime soon someone in the UK diplomatic corps has the courage to sacrifice their job and tells him to fvck off. With numerous references to Epstein for good measure. Directly to his face.

They would be a hero.

Not clairvoyance as such, but perhaps a little more understanding of the place that they've moved to and the fact that it's not very far from, shall we say, a very politically active location which has been such for decades or more.

I'm not sure how much clearer that be be made so I'm going to leave it at that, and people are of course at liberty to disagree with the viewpoint that some people who go on about how much a place is better than the UK perhaps should have added a caveat or two to their remarks.

I'd wager half the people who move there couldn't point to Dubai on a map let alone have an inkling on how close it is to Iran,  Israel etc.

yeah that’s a bit of Trump spitting his dummy out there, I think. It’s all very confusing, but I think they were going to originally protect more of the airspace but when they understood we were only allowing our bases to be used for defensive purposes ( destroying ballistic missile sights and launchers) instead of government buildings and infrastructure as Trump wanted to use them for, he objected to that. He came out and said he was “ very unhappy with the UK” today during a public meeting with the German chancellor.

hes such a baby.

Merz is a total disgrace here btw. Enabling such childish, pathetic behaviour while subserving his formerly independent country into a vassal of Trump’s tantrums and wet dreams of himself.

How incredibly disappointing. (Unless Merz is playing some ridiculous metagame that no one else can figure out.)

So Irans assembly of experts ( who are appointed by the ayotollah)  met today to vote on and appointed the next ayotollah. Israel found out where and bombed them.

thats 100% the type of targeted attack I can get behind.

Nope, Merz is a gigantic loser. Thankfully Macron has come out against this tonight which helps Starmer too.

Hopefully there will be more, too. Honestly didn't expect Merz to cave like that.

Starmer is basically Biden in disguise.

I'm wondering exactly how that's a negative at this point in time and on the current pressing matter.
