Congratulations ladies, well done!

Superb, an absolutely brilliant gritty and battling performance while dealing with injuries and fatigue.

Also love watching them celebrate, absolute unbridled joy, they look so happy and seem to be such a great group of girls.

Just celebrate what the women have achieved!

Yes I think we should be happy what the women have achieved. I don't see why their success should be a reason to then criticise the men. For example if GB win a goal medal in the 1500m Olympics I don't look at the other sex equivalent and complain but enjoy the win

Joey Barton being his usual rational self at the news, then.

Leave him to it - he’s cornered himself into being unable to enjoy a moment of national pride.

Hardly common sense that is it!

For the very small number of people K heard saying England were lucky, if the shoe was on the other foot the moans would be about not making the most of periods of dominance instead of saying the winning team were lucky.

Finding a way to win is what winners do in sport.

Got to say I didn't really give us much hope and I caught myself saying we were riding our luck with some dreadful knockout games and dreadful penalties.

Happy to have been proven wrong. You can't luck your way to a tournament win. Spain are a great team and we gave them a game. Wasn't like Southgate ball where we bored everyone to death and did nothing.

Genuine question - is there an explanation as to why all of the women's teams are so bad at penalties?

Scoll Back 2 pages

They're unsure which side to put it. Too indecisive, keep changing their mind

I think your wrong on the power of the penalty.  I've coached girls, boys and women's.  They can hit it as hard.

I'd say it's more a repetative accuracy thing and then just the pressure.  These women don't come through the same route as elite men/boys who are in academy football daily honing their skills.  Most girls are probably training 2 hours a week at best. Mine trains 7 hours a week, but has to play for 3 teams to do that and she's at quite a high level.

Its definitely improving in quality though as it's progressed over the years

We’ll have to disagree on this one @MonarchFox!

Having coached as well, I agree accuracy helps, however the male body makeup will always generate more power.

It’s why they do quicker running times etc.

We are purely talking about professional vs professional here.

Say Lucy Bronze Vs Mbappe, it’s a no contest etc

A coached female will undoubtedly generate more power than a male. Bizarrely I will say though, the best striker I ever coached at youth level, was female and went on to play international football.

However as others have said, I think Chloe Kelly aside, they aren’t generating that much power and it’s sort of easy to telegraph where they are shooting. Most of the penalties that are taken by top male penalty takers aren’t smashed.

Vardy used to smash them, they’d go in with power, however he wasn’t exactly prolific with them, as they were a little wild.

What a team we have now, safe to say dominant force of european football. How we won yesterday im not sure, but credit to our gals they defended heroically and got rewarded. I love at the final whistle how are players are saying "proud to be English" seems to hurt men players to say that.

Showcases to me these women of ours certainly would go for a brick wall to play for their country.

Sarina Weigmann is now officially greatest England manager either men or womens. Sir Alf still a legend with the world cup... but Sarina i think surpassed that now.
