Do we go into this coming season, without any new incoming players?

The DoF has proven time and again he can only work on one deal at a time. So if he ever sorts us a manager, from that point onwards we'll start looking for players from fresh.

So yes I think there's a very good chance we go into the Sheff Weds game with no signings.

From next week there’s still 6 weeks left of the transfer window & I am sure the loan window is even longer than that. Plenty of time to do business. I would imagine Martí has been sent a lot of film to watch so he has an idea of what the majority of players are like already. It’ll mainly be the young lads he wants to assess.

Truth be told prior to players being sold, we only really need a back up goalkeeper and a striker. Dependent on how he see’s Ayew we may not even feel that we need a striker.

The majority of our signings will simply be replacing what’s left.

I took out the players that I feel are likely/very likely to go. It's still a decent squad by Championship standards but not nearly as impressive as what it was and I'm not certain we will have much to improve it. A backup GK on a free, a loan CM and a loan ST being it wouldn't surprise me.

And Phillips. My comment is void 🤣

In fairness you are right in that besides Bakayogo, all the others did indeed come in after the season had started - Hammond at the end of August, GTF and Wasilewski on frees the following month, Phillips and Mahrez in Jan

I think we will but it'll be very underwhelming.. a back up keeper and a loan or two perhaps.. I can't see us bringing in anyone to get us too excited for the new season..

As others have said though, I just want the rubbish out the door at this stage, play the kids and the few likeable players we have .

Outgoings are more important.

However, bringing nobody in isn’t good either. I’m not sure we will necessarily go stale given that we have younger players to join the squad, such as Nelson and Alves.

Even if it is loans with an option like Fatawu, and to strengthen a couple of positions like striker and central midfield (the latter subject to shifting a few on).

Honestly, so long as we get rid of a few I don't care about incomings. Especially when yous ee the names we're linked with

100% ..

The most important step is to ship some players out first & that includes those we want to sell & those who want to leave. After that the club will know what positions need filling.

Of course I'm making a ridiculously huge assumption that the DoF has a clue at to what he's doing

Of course we will sign players. The new manager will have a list of who he wants.

Obviously shipping out players will be key to this.

At least 1 keeper and a centre forward will be the priority

I think we will sign a striker, that's it. Maybe a backup GK on the cheap if we lose Mads.

Last time we were in the championship the majority of our first team business in and out happened later with only 4 transfers/loans sorted by this time. Our transfer policy is very manager lead so not surprise we are slow this season.

1 July 2023   Conor Coady
18 July 2023    Mads Hermansen
31 July 2023    Stephy Mavididi
1 September 2023  Tom Cannon

Income Loans

14 July 2023 Callum Doyle

15 August 2023 Cesare Casadei

26 August 2023 Yunus Akgün

31 August 2023 Abdul Fatawu

Outgoing Transfers

13 July 2023 George Hirst

23 July 2023 Harvey Barnes

29 August 2023 Timothy Castagne

Hear me out….

At this stage, the new coach isn’t going to get a lot of time to review the squad.

With the state of our finances, I can see us shipping people out and trimming the fat so to speak.

With no new incomings, this squad is capable.

So at this stage, I see foresee us signing no one.

I can review it for him ..... other than the youth ... blow the rest out ..... there you go how easy was that

Rather nobody than the overpaid crap we seem to sign these days. With the up and coming youth this is the best chance we’ve had in ages to get back on an even keel financially/PSR-wise. Still a reasonable chance of promotion if we don’t get too many points deducted.

Same players that I'd expect us to ship.

We'd need a keeper to challenge Jacob and striker, but I think we could do without another CM

The three at the back will do well, especially with Souttar due back around Christmas too.

Should be enough for top 6 and close to the top 2 dependant on the point deduction

I dunno. I would like a bit more creativity in that CM area. We could play Ricardo there but that weakens RB.

I reckon Ndidi goes and we bring in Brownhill on a free.

Be happy with that!

All gone a bit quiet on the brown hill front, would take Kolli from QPR also, serious potential!

Apparently there`s a lad available on a free transfer, knocking on a bit, but has a reputation for scoring goals, getting on a bit for the Premier but he`d score a sackful in the Championship.

Can`t quite remember the name, varty, vladi something like that.

Oh.. 100% afree we could do with more creativity, but I think we have enough to make do in this division

I'd prefer we waited until next summer to see if we can recruit someone of a better quality, rather than bring in some other championship standard player.

I had a look on Spotrac this morning to look at last season salaries and some of them made me feel physically sick if they are correct. We stand absolutely no chance of offloading some of this dross as they won't be willing to take pay cuts elsewhere.

If these are accurate, given the relegation wage drop clause of 35%, currently we have the following players on these salaries this coming season

Winks - £58,500

Soumare - £52,000

Ricardo - £52,000

Daka - £48,750

Ndidi - £48,750

Coady - £48,750

To add to these high wages, all apart from Wilf are in the final year of their respective deals. I cannot see anyone wanting any of them for any type of transfer fee, knowing they'll likely get them on a free next summer.

With the set up we seem to have adopted for the first couple of friendlies, there seems to be an indication we are going to tap into the academy as we might get a transfer ban. We are crying out for a no.9 who can play into Cifuentes style of play, but we may have to adopt a false 9 or go for broke with Jake Evans, Stephy as a make shift striker or throw it all on Daka (God help us!)

I really wonder if many of us would be happy just to shift out some deadwood and go with what we have?

Certainly we do not need anymore over paid and over age journeymen.  That strategy should be binned.

Hopefully Marti gives Youth some opportunities without over playing anyone.

If we shift all of the deadwood we would need to sign at least one striker to replace Daka and Ayew, we would also need a defensive midfielder. As you say though, any incoming players should be players who could develop further and whose value would increase through the period of their contract.
