Fair enough, but I’ve heard stories about Spurs selling him due to his attitude and the same appears to be manifesting here.

And here’s the problem  quote I’ve HEARD stories

Would you have preferred the person with contacts at Spurs act them out in some kind of interpretive dance?

I know I'm screaming into the void here, but take the "Winks is shit and a twat to boot" conversations to the main thread in the forum, would ya?  You keep getting my hopes up bumping this thread by bitching and bickering in here about who hates him most.

Came here to see if there was anyone who might be interested in taking him, then remembered his wages are ridiculous, he's average at best and seems like a bit of a tw@t so realistically he'll leave on a free next summer.

This is just getting ****ing absurd now.

I'm sorry man but this is so wildly over the top.

Literally 99% of this anti Winks stuff is based on people making assumptions after one disagreement with RVN was leaked and then a whole mountain of hysterical confirmation bias after the fact.

It might be the single most extreme case of manufactured hate I can remember seeing against one player. You all need to calm the **** down.

Personally, I think this is also a bit over-the-top, even though I appreciate someone offering some counterbalance. We've seen with our own eyes his lack of commitment on the pitch. Last season on occasions his lack of interest in tracking back (even when introduced as a sub) was picked up by commentators. If I were to be kind, I'd say he was average in the final months under Enzo, then outright rubbish under the next two managers.

The incident in the nightclub wasn't by any stretch normal. Of course, things can get coverage and bother the general public without being particularly significant, but that was very unusual and very unprofessional. He and the others were, by all accounts, rightly reprimanded. Had his performances been up to scratch then we could have forgiven his disrespect for Cooper perhaps, but they weren't. He then continued to be awful - and fell out - with the next manager too. Like most of what we talk about on here, if you pick a side then there's always a good deal of speculation involved, but from what I understood, Ruud's request of him (for one night) was no different to what Enzo required of all the players (for several nights) when he first arrived.

Ruud said that professional standards weren't high enough and, for all my doubts about his judgement as a manager, I doubt his judgement on professional standards is too far off the mark - especially based on what I saw of us last year. And the suggestion that Winks was one of the chief culprits tallies perfectly with what I saw of him, specifically, on the pitch and his attitude towards the previous manager, which isn't at all speculative. When it comes to questioning a player's commitment, I'd say you're on firmer ground - and dependent on far less speculation - with Winks than with most players we've criticised down the years. The fact that he's now posing a problem for a third consecutive manager by - again, demonstrably, visibly - sulking with the fans, is neither here nor there. We've already seen more than enough.

People seem to forget that footballers are  also human. They can have the same problems and issues in their private lives as anyone else. Before slagging them off for perceived bad attitude etc, does anyone stop to think that they could be dealing with family illnesses, or similar stresses outside of their working lives? Not saying this is necessarily the case with winks, but booing and bad mouthing certainly ain't going to help his mental health.

Obviously we should consider people's feelings. Footballers have always benefited from and, equally, suffered from febrile matchday atmospheres, but you could argue that it 'coming with the territory' is no excuse for nastiness. I'd have more sympathy for the teachers, nurses and police officers I know who deal with far worse than him for far less recompense, but that's me.

However I'm not sure I've seen evidence of either excessive, unfair criticism of Winks or of any mental health issues. If he had a serious problem with the criticism he has received then that'd be a shame, but he should also ask himself whether he's doing everything in his power to help himself. From what I've seen it's quite the opposite.

People need to remember being a footballer isn’t an ordinary job. So, for me it’s just comparable to an “ordinary job” a lot of people can and do **** about at work, make poor decisions and what not and usually get away with it.

Winks is in a privileged role, he gets paid a lot of money to do what he does, and when you’re a professional footballer you represent the club, city and the fans. Whereas this may not be what he’s bothered about, whilst you play for this club, you represent it properly. Winks has completely disrespected the fans and the club. His behaviour has been deplorable, the night club shenanigans was a disgrace, there’s no defending that at all. Winks is most definitely a toxic character, one that we don’t need in the dressing room. He’s our best midfielder, but he’s downed tools and isn’t interested anymore, and not getting a move on deadline day won’t change that either.

I don’t want to see him plant for this club again.

Did you think was going to be click magnet? Such over the top childish bile is just silly, fitting in these social media times perhaps, but not remotely accurate nor warranted.

Nail meets head.

The lack of commitment from Winks has been plainly there to see on the pitch for the last year or so.

Him getting frozen out by Van Nistelrooy is just being used as an excuse for him at this point. You don't need to speculate what went down between him and Van Nistelrooy when you can judge for yourself whether Winks's attitude has been acceptable.

Had he never been frozen out my opinion would remain the same, we cannot rely on Winks going into this season as he checked out of the club this time last year. It's just surprising at this point that a year on and some fans still haven't caught on.

I have a feeling "i defended him at the start of the season but after his performance today i can no longer do so" is going to be fairly common in a couple months time.

Going to be an important player for us this year

If he can get his head out his own arse and stop sulking! He needs a reality check and accept we are as good as he can do. Especially given the wages we're paying him

He’s not even linked with anyone.

Winks is a luxury midfielder that not many want or can afford. It will have been quite a humbling summer for Winks with his agent looking around and struggling to find suitors.

If he is going to go he will need to drop his wage demands significantly becauee he's not getting half of what he is paid here anywhere else.
